Technically French isn't a foreign language for Docm30 (I don't know how much he knows), but your point is still valid.
The French government AND military wanted to change the uniform to something more suitable following the increasing ranges of weapons and battlefield visibility in the closing years of the 19th century, but they couldn't seem to find a style that they liked (those trialled always seemed to be too much like the uniform of another nation, usually Germany or Italy). The people, however, wanted the uniforms to remain unchanged, claiming that they were a symbol of France... Of course, in this debate with the government the army had no power and the people were eventually victorious. However, the government decided to compromise: the uniform would be replaced with fabric made from a blend of blue, white and red dyes (blue being the most prevalent and red the least), this change when they discovered the red the wanted was only produced in Germany. This resulted in the removal of red and the readjustment of the percentages of the other colours, resulting in horizon-blue, introduced in 1915. During both 1914 and the period in 1915 when HB had not been introduced (or when the full uniform hadn't been issued) many quick fixes were introduced, such as dark coloured over-trousers and dark trousers made from a variety of fabrics, such as corduroy. Dark kepi covers were also seen.
The deaths resulting from the bright uniforms were a steep price to pay for a "symbolic" uniform...
I've seen and touched one of the Marne taxis... I felt a little dirty when I did...
Yours look spot on!
I would be more than happy to take stab at making any of those maps, Sturm (especially if you're providing resources. I've been trying forever to recreate FH2 maps in MoW... That's hard, given you need to run Battlefield in the background to make sure it's perfect...)!
Lookin' good! Keep it up, lads!
I'm sorry to hear that, Sturm. I hope your new PSU comes soon! I know the mod will be perfect regardless!
Is it just me or are the French uniforms in this mod incorrect?
Do you mean to say that the closed beta, which was supposedly released last week, is in fact not released?
"Poor Johnny's heart went pitty pitty pat somewhere in sunny France.."
I still love the story about the quadriga. Rather hilarious, I might say.
Thanks a lot, guys, now I have to change my pants!
Keep up the excellent work, lads!
Thanks for the reply! I'll go back to waiting for the release now!
I'm rather sure this question hasn't been asked before:
Will the missions featured in this mod see the player controlling large forces or will the be focused on smaller groups of user controlled units? I only ask because I feel that certain features (8 men per group, in-depth inventory, etc.) lend Men of War more easily to squad-based missions.
Regardless, keep up the great work, lads! It'll be wonderful!
After playing this mod I will be able to die a happy man.
Sounds pretty cool!
Is this ever going to be released?
I really do hope that updates for the vanilla MoW won't halt COMPLETELY after the release (Have I said this already?). Even if they were released far less commonly than the Assault Squad updates I would still be an extremely satisfied and jovial young man.
Keep it up, Sturm. We all know that your mod will be absolutley magnificent!
Perfect. Just perfect.
Its been rather quite for a while...
Any chance for some updates, Sturm?
CHILDREN! Stop your bickering! This is arguably the most inane discussion (if I can go so far as to call it that) I have ever seen on Mod DB. Congratulations.
Now, let us settle our disputes and return to salivating over the greatness that is this mod, regardless as to it's status.
My impatience is taking over! Must resist urge to sacrifice livestock to the Mod Gods!
Its nice to see some new screen shots! I really hope this mod stays alive!
Whilst I agree that Canada should be included to some extent, the US didn't do anything for the majority of the war.
This is an Age of Empires 3 clone. And a VERY good one. I've enjoyed every moment I've played of 0 A.D. thus far (besides the crazy lag, of course) and I look forward to the future of this promising title!
This just keeps getting better and better! Huzzah!
What a gorgeous model! Keep it up, Lads!
Vive la France!
