You know what, from what I have seen go down with Project Zomboid and other Developers, I think gamers / customers would for the most part be pretty understanding if in future other bits of life got in the way of artistry and maybe even inspire it a bit. Thanks for coming back into communication and hope life is going well.

Check the review section, you are not alone in your dissappointment.

You should know that I didn't know of your game before this video and because of your response to it, I am tracking your game and considering a purchase in the future.

Beds! That must be it, I wondered why they were bones so soon, even after I placed that water. You would think they would just sleep on the ground or some stone like a good dwarf. Well, let's see, I guess I will just fight a sheep, cut down a tree, then open up the crafting section and ... wait, where did the crafting section go? :P

****? Better?! Nicely!?! This "game" hardly warrants such praise, there is very little actionable responsive gameplay after all these builds. Wipe that stupid grin off your face. Their latest livestream vid? Chickens starving without grass and watching them play a retextured Minecraft after they have the audicity to criticize other people's programing. Still no tutorial, wiki is sparse on info, irc chat is empty and the forums are dead most of the time and chasing their tail in the brief moments of activity instead of paying attention to legitimate concerns of customers. Praise at this point is over zealous enthusiasm of a pipe dream, the demented ravings of brown nosed Yes Men gladly lapping up promises that have yet to materialize after a year. They need to step up their game and earn that praise like other Devs have before them and better implementation of these same inspirations can be spotted on the horizon with A Game of Dwarves or even Towns coming to take what should be yours. Prove you are inspired by Dwarf Fortress and put out updates that would be worthy of licking Toady's boots! Now get down and give me 100! The rest of you can stand at attention in this beautiful torrential downpour until Private Tastyrice is finished. /Sgt Ahole Rant aka Reality Check. ;)

That was my take on this as well, Indie Devs haven't done anything that would warrant not purchasing their products, this is mostly on the big Publishers of retail PC and Console titles, names like EA, Activision, Ubisoft, etc. Purchasing Mass Effect 3 is upping their profit, purchasing a Indie Dev title doesn't make a bit of difference on a big Publisher's books. Besides, the real reason for not purchasing SoR right now would be that there isn't much of anything resembling a game to play right now ;)

I know I appreciate this level of honesty, getting to peek behind the figurative curtain. I don't mind the wait, I can be patient.

Oh wow, look at that, there it is "Once all the prerequisite are complete you guys should end up with a wonderful ham and lettuce sandwich for consumption. Unfortunately for you guys, Dwarven women don't exist soooo... sandwiches are a logical impossibility within SoR." I guess I didn't think of it as sexist, that seems like if dwarves are asexual ... are dwarves clones of each other when they reproduce in in their setting? Anyways, sorry, I guess, I read the joke as not a joke and it flew right over my head, I thought the image at the end was what as potentially offensive. Huh, who woulda thunk it!

I feel the same way, we want to see these images in the game we play. Not much to play at the moment - hey, that's what its like to play alpha builds, that in mind, give it the review rating it deserves at this time is my take on it, nice thing about Desura, I can go back and give them a better rating if they add in those images with the corresponding promised accompanying gameplay mechanics. Its been years for other projects, so I think the same long term way with this, I'll keep checking back as they update, may they have the dedication to see that my low review ratings are not a rejection of their proposed game, just an evaluation of the current build.

While I agree with Bomblol and Hemebond on the possible construed context - this is kind of a case of the art failing or our eyes: Does no one else see the pointy ears? That is a dwarf trying to break the ice with a elf ... I think. This might not have been meant as sexist joke and more ... forbidden love, everyone knows at least when it comes to Dwarf Fortress and because its such a heavy influence for these guys I take it they beg/borrow/steal heavily from that where a dwarf trying to get it on with a treehugging elf would be ... horrifying. ;)

You know what would be interesting? If some characters could repond in a friendly fashion despite having negative moodles, call it something like "Cheerful in the face of adversity" or something, I have certainly met people who manage to be happy/joyful despite hungry, injury, cancer, or whatever it may be.

Cleared it up enough for me to be a part of the crowd sourcing, good luck - Indy Dev games are the future as far as I am concerned :)

CanadianWolverine - - 18 comments @ Survivors of Ragnarök - Adopt A Pig! Pre-Order Now!

I am getting hung up on quite possibly lack of reading skills but the word pre-order is messing me up. That means I play it at a later date, correct? Or is this really a playable Alpha aka Alphafunding in disguise, trying to go incognito for some reason... I like to do Alphafunding, not pre-orders unless there is a demo I can grind to dust, I know, I am weird - I can accept feature incomplete and huge CTD type bugs if something is up front about it and even pay for the experience, but pre-orders just make me think of console games and vendor specific perks and my order coming late and the rage ... oh god, what is this, why is their blood on my hands. Er... Yeah, hope you can clear up the pre-order vs alphafunding thing, not that other thing involving EBgames and some dark humour.

CanadianWolverine - - 18 comments @ What Indie Developers Can Learn from Minecraft

Maybe I am just old or something, but this doesn't feel so much like a trend but a gradual climb building on the success of past games because I remember things like SimCity (1989), Railroad Tycoon (1990), Star Control 2 (1992), etc. Maybe how people are defining what a sand box game is changing because of new options the varying games have been offering us over the years, but if there is any trend of the current age it is big development studios going console at their publisher's urgings and that is creating a void Indy developers are gladly filling for the PC market as acceptance of digital markets and distribution due to services like Steam, Impulse, and GOG. As long as customers don't have any wide spread issues with using debit/credit online to support their favourite sources of entertainment, things will only hopefully get better for Indy Devs and their patrons who enjoy their products and services, especially since their prices are so competitive in comparison to the so called AAA titles.

CanadianWolverine - - 18 comments @ Frozen Synapse Teaser Trailer #2

Just watched the two teaser trailers. Thank you for zooming in on your little men, it imparted a sense of detail I didn't notice at first that piqued my interest. One question though before I go seeking the price to be have my own experiences in this game, does the game come with the music that was in the teasers? I was very much enjoying the music in combination with the gameplay video and hope it is a part of the gaming experience. If it is not, could I at the very least know what the names of the songs & artists are? I would very much appreciate it.

CanadianWolverine - - 18 comments @ What Indie Developers Can Learn from Minecraft

I read through your insightful post from a re-tweet (IIRC what they are called) from Notch, whose twitters/blog posts I have been following because I want to know if he has put more creatures/mosnters in yet to kill my miner and also because I love his open and frank discussion of his development process. I now have awareness of your Frozen Synapse game I didn't have before, despite it apparently getting a mention by Penny Arcade. After watching the teaser videos, I grasp this is a game I very much want to be a part of after memories of Shadowrun (P&P), X-COM, and planning missions for Rainbow Six and also because of the level of excitement those very detailed little men running around in the explosions were imparting to me. I need to go check out the price now and weigh it against my family's budget for entertainment... My apologies if this is off topic, I just thought it would be nice to relate you now have another potential customer thanks to this insightful post into why Minecraft, even as a Alpha version, works for the world wide audience of those who might consider themselves gamers, particularly PC in this case. If only Dwarf Fortress was easier to get into, I know I would do more than just read other people's awesome stories, view the awesome comics, and dispatch tileset parties of dwarves to die without me ever issuing a decent order/thought for them to strike the earth. In Minecraft, I click and hold one button and I strike the earth ... and it is very satisfying, even exciting when I go spelunking in vast cave systems and ranging across the seas, hills, and mountains with monsters looking to send me back to the starting point at every turn. And that's before I even start mining operations hollowing out one of those mountains and crafting a tower and roads to guide me to safety... Sorry, I am rambling even further now. Peace and happy hunting in all your games. :)
