Yes, this game has no DRM protection. There is no need to have the Desura client running as you play either. You can also copy the game files to a USB stick and play it directly from there (so you can play the game on multiple computers without needing to install it every time.)

Please feel free to check out the very active forum, where of course you shouldn't hesitate to ask any questions you might have about the game. And it is also where you should visit should you wish to try the game out in Multiplayer. (which is where most people agree the game truly shines brightest)
If you have any other questions about the game then you are probably better off asking on the forum. As there are a lot more players who regularly check the forum, and your question could also be missed if asked in this comments section (or at least it might take longer for you to get a reply to the same question asked on the forum)
The manual still contains a lot of important and relevant information about how to play the game, and almost all of it is still valid and correct. So it is still well worth consulting during play, and I know it's rare that my manual is ever allowed to gather dust.
Although there are a few errors in the manual, and quite a lot of omitted information. Especially regarding the game mechanics. Which is what has generally led to the negative rumours about the manual being out-of-date and of little use now. Which is not true IMO.
The fan community has also done a great job in both correcting any manual errors, and filling in as many of the missing gaps about the game mechanics as they can. And like with just about everything else regarding the game, if anyone does have any questions, then please don't hesitate to ask them on the forum.
