> Mercs: the documentation tells you there is an invisible aura on mercs that gives them damage, exp gain etc; this is a workaround to make them scale properly to the new numbers. The merc needs to kill some monsters to turn this on.
> Cain and witches: if you think avoiding a motionless monster = "Einstein stuff", congratulations! You are a typical Diablo 2 player who gets laughed at by other game communities because Diablo 2 is a retardedly simple game with nothing but grind.
God forbid people have to use their brain at some point - then it's too hard. Daystar fire kills you? Get fire resist. A monster explodes corpses and this pwns you? Kill it first before you make other corpses. For some people this is too hard and mindlessly clicking on harmless monsters is "fun".
Something happened in society and now it is cool to be too lazy to think.
This is the Warcraft 3 mapper's problem. Too many mods, not enough players (and too many commercial games to compete against, too).
What's left is advertising.
Indie games are handicapped because they cannot surf on the popularity of their parent game. When someone wants a shooter, they look for HL2 mods, not for indie games.
Between this and the crazy amount of work needed to make a decent indie game, one has to wonder who even wants to do it.
You obviously didn't read the docs because A. you didn't install any LoD patch, so you don't have patch_d2.mpq, and B. this did not deter you from replacing an unrelated .mpq file.
Congratulations, you're the 1000th who doesn't manage to follow the 'replace a file' instructions.
1.18 is now out, and among its marvellous achievements (hehe) is the fact that Normal is now a lot easier. As you see, I do listen to my players.
Works for me. Try again.
Read the docs... ;)
You read the damned README.
Completely unlike classic LoD where every skill is equally powerful. Right. Uh-huh.
There is always going to be a best skill (it is even theoretically unavoidable once there are 2 or more different endgame farming locations). And this being Diablo 2, people tend to use said better skill and ignore the others.
By the way, people have beat the game with just about anything, but some players need overpowered skills to get through and therefore consider the others useless... so this is less a comment about skill trees and more about a failure to beat the game without Godly Build X.
You wouldn't ask this question in any other game. Why would the drop rates be the same?
Yes, it will work with Median.
It will also not just 'enhance' it but completely break it and make it imbalanced. This is because it slightly increases the numbers in classic LoD, but the equivalent stats in Median are often much higher or lower and not in the same ballpark.
- For instance, block rates in Median are much reduced to improve balance between 2h weapons and 1h+shield, and of course monsters are nerfed accordingly. This mod (cheat tool, really) will give you an automatic 75% block, making the game easier but also rendering half of the weapons obsolete.
- Getting 10 stats per level is nice in classic LoD. In Median it will easily cause your damage AND your life AND your mana to overflow, causing your life/mana orb to flip out and your damage to wrap around to 0.
- Max level 160 means that a certain joke item with +1000 stats and required level 121 is now usable, making the game entirely pointless.
And that's just the BENEFICIAL bugs; a lot more bad things will happen, like uberquest reward charms/the new runes/gems breaking and crashing your game and the uberquest drop biases not working etc.
But hey, it makes it easier. To hell with balance and challenge and even the level of polish that took me years of my life - it needs to be EASIER EASIER EASIER. [Said in the voice of the VIOLENCE VIOLENCE guy at the end of Death Race 2000]
The D2 community disappoints me.
You weren't here during the beta test, were you?
'Boo hoo it's too hard'
Also, a surprising amount of people are looking for an 'easy and fun' build...
RealmofTeror are known for having hosted HACKED versions of Median against my permission.
The only APPROVED Median XL realm is at www.d2maniacs.org.
The /players 8 setting multiplies monster hp by x5.67, so if you kill the monster in 2-3 hits, it'll now take about 10-15 hits.
This life bonus is ridiculously high, which makes the game either too easy without /players x or too hard with it, but it's not like a mod can change that.
PromiserOfDeath doesn't know what he's talking about, because your characters are not affected when you install the mod. You just can't use your LoD characters in Median and vice versa.
It seems he doesn't know what battle.net is. That or he thinks the mod (which doesn't work on realms) will nevertheless crack your realm account for no reason and delete your characters. Wtf.
Also, closed battle.net (realm) characters are saved ON BATTLE.NET, because that's the entire point of closed battle.net. And there is no such thing as open battle.net characters, those are just your single player characters.
Ps. PromiserofDeath: you really don't have to make 7 posts on the front page alone. I cleaned up a bit.
You didn't say what problems you have.
Why 'SHOULD' 3-5 hits kill a creature on /players 8... when you're in a level 5 area... at level 2?
Just because you found the entrance doesn't mean you absolutely HAVE to do the quest RIGHT NOW, especially when you've just left town and killed a handful of monsters.
Also, why 'SHOULD' 3-5 hits kill a /players 8 monster in the first place? It's the hardest setting for a reason and you can't just turn it on by default. Leave your hammerdin-tainted sense of balance at the door, please.
What the hell are you doing in the Den of Evil at level 2 on /players 8???
I suppose if you're good at modding you'd want to get paid. The disadvantage is that all the good content that was made 'for the community' in War3 times will now be hogged by mod teams.
The only issue is that above a certain resolution the monsters cannot see you anymore at the edge of the screen, but you can see them and easily kill them.
This would be a problem in any game that's meant to be a challenge, but this is Diablo 2 and the point of Diablo 2 is to crush monsters anyway.
This will probably be impossible because Blizzard has adopted a very anti-mod stance concerning Diablo 3.
The reason seems to be that they want to show the world that they are opposed to hacking (good thing, considering D2 battle.net was hacked to pieces) and they don't want to bother to explain the difference to the typical battle.net kiddie who won't understand.
Ironically they are very much promoting Starcraft 2 modding, to the point where you can sell custom maps for real money.
I doubt it, because Median doesn't actually come with Multires. Your downloading third party hacks with viruses in them is your problem.
Though I find it funny that a D2 hack comes with a WoW keylogger. Who the hell plays both?
Come on, this HAS to be a joke post because everyone would read the readme. Right?
'every time i enter patch_d2-copy it wnt let me play diablo it says unhanced'
I'm sorry, next time I'll provide the install instructions as a series of visual signs for people who don't master the English language.
Buckshot is only considered useless because a lot of people hate its short range. Apparently if you're using an xbow, a short ranged attack is a problem - but if you're using an axe, it is fine. Huh?
Clearly you didn't follow the install properly. Now, since you didn't post the actual error you're getting, I can't help you!
Instead of bugfixes? Right.
Yes, I know the necro can get much more minions than that, but that doesn't make for pretty screenshots. You just see a pile of moving stuff - which is fun when you're playing, of course.
Major releases have a new version number. Minor releases ('b') are just small patches.
The changelog is normally posted on the official site, which I'll do now, because it takes a few hours to upload the mod so I do this at night.
I'm not aware of any problems with the hires mod and Median, but if there are problems, they are caused by the hires mod (which is a bugged pile of junk) and not Median, so it is their problem to fix and not mine.
I don't know, not without more information.
Yeah, almost looked like a guy in D1. :P
Uh, what? Time Field was implemented HALF A YEAR BEFORE Diablo III. Disintegrate merely happens to share a name (it's an instakill nova on a timer) and it has been removed in 1.A9.
I took exactly 1 skill from Diablo III, and that's Disintegrate - which appears on the /amazon/ as Death Ray in the bloodwitch tree.
It depends. You can connect using TCP/IP or open B.net, though you'll both need the same version (and the recent days have been a flurry of updates).
Or, you can take a look at D2 Maniacs, who are hosting a third party realm. It currently supports only M2 1.17 at the time of posting this, but in the very near future, they'll switch to M2 Special Edition 1.02.
