My main focus is testing PC games in Linux. I have had a lot of success with PlayOnLinux in Linux Mint! I am working hard at creating step-by-step guides on how to install, configure and optimize PC games in PlayOnLinux. I am also a artist with skills in drawing, sculpture, graphic arts, 3D modeling and music.

Hey there I saw your great models from sketchup and it is really good...I made some of models in it...and I agree with you about the speed...come and check my models at the game we are creating...some other were made by side helpers and some by curently working team members :D

This is done in Sketchup? Amazing - I thought it was only used for simpler models. If you search for massive black and sketchup you can see how their workflow is, using sketchup. Not bad at all, but I think you could do incredible things, if you mixed in some more advanced 3D Software, lika Modo or Maya.

Thanks alot. I have two problems with professional programs. Money (of course) and workflow. Modeling in SketchUp is so fast that I can finish models in a few hours to a few days, depending on the complexity of the model.
I'm hoping UDK or 3DMax has that kind of turn-over, but I doubt it.
I am originally an AutoCAD designer and love doing 3D models in CAD too. CAD is super quick with geometric shapes, but on the organic side... almost impossible.

Modeling in any program can be very fast and efficient. Where this works even moreso in a program like MAYA or 3DS is that they are MADE to be used professionally, meaning that anything that can slow down your workflow, has a tool to speed it up.

Where these programs really shine is their capacity to handle more then your computer ever will. Start pushing a few million polys and it will handle as long as your computer does.

Good points AlCool....
I would love to learn Maya or 3DMax one day. My biggest setbacks are finances. I know that I could learn a student version for free. I may actually try that...
For now, Sketchup is my favorite modeling program. I'll save the professional programs for another time.
Don't worry, I won't write them off yet until I give them the appropriate amount of trial.
I have looked into Blender and it is extremely complicated to learn.

Thanks for the great feedback booman!

You've got some nice environments going on here. I couldn't help but wonder if you could port those into UDK and try different lightning setups for ***** and giggles?

Actually you can. At least into Unreal Tournament 3. I am going to be working on exporting as OBJ files and see how compatible all the geometry and UV mapping is...
If I have some success, then I'll be making custom objects for mapping in UDK.
At least that is my long-term goal.
