You only have to use the client for installation and patches. It doesn't need to run in order for you to play the game. It uses your ModDB account as it is run and developed by the same group of people. If you're so inclined you can add the game to your Steam library and launch it from there. Desura is less obtrusive then Steam as it doesn't require any background process or services to be active for you to play your games. So i'm not sure what your issue is with using a great service that comes in at about a whopping 35MB or so installation.

Is widescreen implementation out of the question? The reason I ask is because you mention controller compatibility which sounds great but I tend to only use controller when playing on the htpc and when you're on the couch those black bars a lot more obvious and I avoid using stretch.

Anyway, I just wanted to say I enjoy your updates because they're very informative.

I took a drawing class at uni once (totally by accident - the unit description got all mixed up by admin). It literally hurt the front of my head to try and draw. Just something my brain refuses to do.

I asked this because Valve have stated that their traditional game submission process has been suspended for the time being in favour of Greenlight. As far as I'm aware this means all indie and mod devs have to use it (including teams that have had previous business relationships with Valve).

Ok well I ran through it again. And I worked out it out. Enjoyed it. Train was fun (I can see why people get into train sims now). I'll PM some other questions/feedback.

I don't think you need to make hutman mandatory unless he's providing some sort of clue for latter parts of the game. I was happy listening to him and just wanted to point out that choosing to go out the back would load the next area, cutting him off, which I hadn't expected.

When I met the first guy in the shack, I kept exploring while he was talking and I opened the back door which cut off all his dialogue.

As cupogoodness said the art direction was the number one reason why many people purportedly didn't buy the game. Q.E.D. Change to a more appealing art style = more sales (and hopefully keep everyone employed).

Indie Royale and Humble Bundle have hundreds of applicants. I'm sure they've thought of it.

Good luck on the do-over!

Well that's not so great news. I'd be interested to know the success rate of gaming projects on indiegogo compared to kickstarter. If it doesn't come through perhaps a switch of crowdfunding sites and relaunch of the appeal?

Also, I'm a bit confused about the 4th part of the funding goals - Making it DRM free. Is it possible to release Source engine games without the need for Steam (considering that is a form of DRM)?

Good luck with your endeavours guys. What we've seen so far looks pretty sweet.

Just a heads up for anyone for whom the game is not launching properly in fullscreen - press F4. Can switch between small window or fullscreen this way. Tested this with 1.2/1.3 portable and installer versions. Could be that I'm running Win 8 con prev.

Congrats on the release btw. Also digging the music right now.

So are you the same devs who are making Insurgency 2?

Because I gather letting the 2000 people who track this mod know that you've got a kickstarter going would be a good idea. Don't be scared off by the rabid 'omg you can't be making a commercial product that just makes you evil' crowd.

Kickstarter.com

Insurgency2.com

Do you have anyone doing PR for you? Because if you do, they need a kick up the bum.

Good luck !!!

Sound system error

alcOpenDevice failed - device 'Generic Software' could not be opened

Do you want to continue without sound?

Yes No

Selecting No sends me to the game without sound when I was expecting it to terminate.

I like it so far. Transition of headlamp when switching to right or left facing character model is a bit annoying. Could be smoother. Good luck!
