ye, striders should be as strong as they are in hl2. Don't like it that they can tear one down by just using guns, explosives of some sort should be the way to do it :/

my guess would be that the stone you set out (after you have mined it) looks the same as the stone you find (the stone you haven't mined). So if you build a giant cave or something and only want pure stone walls there won't be any difference between the stones you have put out and the ones that were there originally.

Yup, in the pergamon museum. It was awesome seeing it irl (im one of those that actually like too look at stuff when your on vacation rather than lie on a beach under the sun all day :P) And there where lots of other cool stuff in there. They also had a small copy of how the ischtar gate looked:

ah thats nice, that the building is also covered by the shadow, unlike many games were the entire building is visible even if only have taken away a bit of the shadow from it.

read the latest news here, it clearly says that if people upload maps that does not contain anything special they will be deleted, due to many people (me included) is not very happy about logging into moddb and become happy about seeing lots of updates on minecraft just to later see that they are uploads of some small houses or something...

well, it never played a major role in battles in the old games. It's a support craft, maybe giving a major LoS, being able to see invis units and giving it some light armaments. I think high LoS is enough :P it gives major benefits in battle.
