Looks great guys! :D
Great! When can we expect the mac version?
Have you seen off-limits?
Thanks for the feedback, we've experimented a bit with toon shaders in the past, but we didn't think they looked that great. We might experiment with it a bit more in the future.
Ik ben master student, laatste jaar dus. Bedankt!
This updates crashes for all Mac users...
Thank you for your support and encouragements, I appreciate it!
the first screenshot looked like a concept painting, great!
very nice work!
Good luck everyone!
so rendered in-game right? not real gameplay?
modified version of the Source engine? how?
Great, any plans for a mac version?
very natural looking
looks complicated :)
Ok great game-project and nice comic, but are you going to make a newspost for every comic page that gets released?
Don't get me wrong, I really like the work you guys do, and you deserve some media attention
but newsposts about comics is not mod/indie game related. I'd rather not have all the mod related news get bumped down for webcomic news and 5 newspost about the same "organic indie pack" was not needed either.
It's not getting me more excited about the game and the development of it, on the contrary.
Please keep things like this for profile news, so that people who really care and "watch" the game see it, but not for the front-page.
Looks great, its a shame the url on the concept doesn't work (yet)
so they make all the dinosaurs found in Jurassic Park and even make them look the same?
haha best vid ever! ^^
I had no problems with it, ofcourse you need some skill and have to learn it, but that didn't take a lot of time and effort for me. It's a twitch-based game and learning how to fly and land a spaceship is part of the gameplay.
Anyway, I remember InfinityAdmin say something about a possible "auto-landing" system for those who want it, but I'm not sure thats still planned.
You can just land manually :)
Try the ICP for example, you can land on asteroids and even in the hangar of the battleship.
looking good! :)
sounds very cool and looks good. So he wont be able to eat marines anymore? That would be a shame since it was a cool feture that no other game does!
wiki: "These predators evolved from semi-aquatic squamates known as the aigialosaurs, close relatives of modern-day monitor lizards, in the Early Cretaceous Period."
Both are Lacertilia families, crocs are crocodylia.
In the same way dolphins evolved from land mammals ;), mosasaurs evolved from primitive varans.
Ask nature how it did this ;)
Mosasaurus, not crocodile. its more related to the Komodo dragon than crocs ;)
you guys have great concept artists, will we see this in the mod too?
I agree, l4D2 wont sell as good as the first. While I love dthe first one I actually didnt play it that much since it only had a couple of maps and I got bored very fast. Im not going to pay again for a short game, this should have been an expantion or something, not a new game.
why would we want a 2006 trailer?
and have you finally cut the list of features? what was it? aliens, dinosaurs, futuristic weapons, modern weapons, vehicles, space, halo stuff,...
Yeah something like that, and there's a big difference between randomly generated and procedurally generated.
From the FAQ:
Procedural generation is not at all the same than random generation. In fact, it's pretty much the opposite: it's all about recreating the same data providing the same inputs. "Seeds" numbers are given to objects, so as long as an object has the same seed than before, it will be recreated exactly like before, with the exact same details, down to the millimeter level.
Synchronization between multiple players is ensured by making the server transfer the same object's seed to all players who are able to see or interact with this object. So all players will see the same procedurally generated object, like a planet, with the same details.
Its our galaxy, also know as the milkyway. Every dot you see is a star, and there are more than 100 billion of them. Unless you fly very very far out you probably won't be able to see it like this.
You might see it like this in the 3D map we are planning for Infinity.
hmm lets see about that
but the background is a real screenshot and the spaceships are real models.
I think its fair to say it will look like this ingame, or maybe even better.
This is made by Koshime.
so its just a map, not a mod?
Looks great as always, good luck!
Wait, this is on quake2? O.o
but as a comment to a newspost?
Would have been better to post it on their forums or something.
Looks amazingly good, pro work!
One thing I have to say is that the trees all look to be orientated in the same way, you see patterns very fast.
Do you have permission to use material(from all its creators) from the dead Western Revenge mod?
quote from IA "The implementation is rather easy: project the light source ( sun ) into screen-space, and perform a radial blur while accumulating and fading out samples. I improved the initial ideas a bit with all sorts of optimizations, and clipping the light source to the screen boundaries, fading with the camera-to-light angle, etc.."
Exactly, Infinity will have a large variety of planet type.
No, you can't deform the terrain.
so tell us about your style ;)
interior screens look great but whats with the fog in screen3?
Yay PVK2 was one of my favo hl2 mods, I can't wait to play beta2 *downloading*
Yes this is a video of the Combat prototype, this is not what the real game will be like.
"This is a completely separate program that only shares the engine. It does not represent what you will find in Infinity. Its goal is, namely, to test: the graphics engine, the physics engine, the networking engine, experiment with controls / combat mechanics / balance, to improve stability/fix bugs and measure/stress performance.
The combat prototype is not meant to have a deep gameplay; do not expect any form of planetary landing. 10 ships are available to the players. The gameplay is arena (team vs team) based, while Infinity will be a fully open "sandbox" type of game. "
The ICP does have missiles btw ;)
So you guys licensed an open-source engine?
Good to see you guys stayed with your interesting game universe!
Years ago I worked on a western mod for HL2 called Western Revenge, it got never release unfortunately and I’m not sure if anyone remembers. Anyway I’m impressed with the screenshots and I’m downloading the mod now.
Only one question I have, what’s with the lava in one of the screenshots?!
Doesn't look like its a source game/mod at all, thats a good thing!
@posters: Oh please, no spoilers. I still have to see season 3 as its not available in Europe yet(legal)
Thats very very nice, you don't see a lot of maps lately that are so different from anything Ive seen on source.
Some textures are a little blurry but its great to see some non-hl2 textures and props. Good stuff guys!
No, it's not a reflection.
No, all textures will be hand-made, you can never get the same quality with procedural textures.
You can't fly to the core of the gas giant(which is not gas btw) the pressure would crush your ship.
In infinity you can only fly in the top layers of a gas giant. ;)
Maybe you to forgot check the description under the image? Those are Hephaestian textures and we have one example of a Hephaestian world in our solarsystem: Io(moon of Jupiter).
Io itself looks very 'unreal', its one of the most active worlds in the solarsystem and is a mix of different bright colors:
We only have one example of a world like this in real-life and we don't have any good close-up pictures of it, so I had to use my inspiration for this texture pack. Before I started working on this pack I did some research of course, personally I'm I'm happy with the results. I tried to give them an organic/chemical look, the textures are smoother and more reflective than most other terrain textures I made for Infinity.
Keep in mind that you only see 2 random textures, every texture pack has around 10 textures.
And please trust me, I've been working on planetary textures for Infinity for more than a year now, it's been my main job for Infinity. Ofcourse I look at pictures, ofcourse I do research, ofcourse some of those textures are strongly based on real planetary pictures from NASA and other space agencies.
Yes we have the landing system done, check this topic:
Tthe Flamberge is 5km long, that's probably going to be the maximum size for a ship.
@Ancientpanda: Its not a map its a 3D render I think
looks a little too clean
So they created most dinosaurs known to man? Any idea how many that are?!
lol, whats 'up' in space?! ;)
Looks good :) nothing wrong with RPGMaker btw.
You have a link to the first craft game? I would like to try it!
Looks and sounds very interesting, it defenetly needs some work from what I can see on the screens, but it looks lik a very good start :D
Good luck guys!
Does this mean its standalone?
hmm this is missing something, most of the mods pictures are great but this one feels 'unreal'
Those are renders from a nebulae prototype.
Bethesda couldnt do it better ;) but I would still like to see some new content and new looking landscapes.
You turn around :P
I dont see how anyone can hide for more than 1sec!
@ scratch: You will see more of the 'shoe' ship in the near future, and Im sure you'll like it ;)
wow this looked like a picture of ther real thing, but when you look closely you see its in-game.
This is the most realistic source screenshot ive ever seen!
I think its a little confusing, the controls are strange and in the beginning you dont know what to do.
It could use a lot of work I think but its defenetly not bad!
Oh... thats just a small frigate ;) wait till you see a Super Carrier.
I cant wait to see the first media ;)
so... they are back?
so what about Sven co-op source? what happened to that?
and it it was different they would **** off all the original SC fans, because they "ruined it all!!1"
omg dinoboat! ^^
I love the style you guys use! very nice! ^^
I have both mac and PC, and its ironic that you say "dominates the market". Apple is worth more than Microsoft since this week.
I'm just asking a simple question, I dont need all the Mac vs PC ********!
I have both and both are good in a different way.
I have both MAC and PC, and I don't feel "owned" by anyone.
as you say "yet", so any plans for it?
Hey, any plans for a mac version?
any plans for a mac version?
Haha :D well I'm sure InfinityAdmin would love to trade his zero-budget game technology with NASA's multi-billion dollar space technology!
No point in spreading rumors that its going to be free. People will expect it to be free and it probably wont!
Feel free to let you imagination(and creations) go wild on the contribution forum where the art for this game is being created by gamers lke you: Infinity-universe.com
so with every new shooter game you say "but there is Doom, why would we need this?" ?
Have you actually seen any of the main features from this video in EVE?
Be carefull saying that, before you know it they contact your project leader!
For updates you should check the Infinity forums. I'm not updating this profile anymore and I'm not sure anyone else is going to do it.
It was already possible and done in 1984 with the Elite games. Procedural techniques enable you to do this without needing a hi-tech computer. I have no idea why no game studio has done this in the last decades with 'modern' game technology, it's a shame.
So, it's like Infinity: The Quest for Earth?
Space exploration with lots of planets, seamless space/terrain transition, you can do what you want, no walking feature but vehicles are in, and it has a name with "The Quest For" in it, and you accept contribution work?
(not claiming it's a copy)
How will the Unreal Engine3 be able to generate those planets?
looks fantastic, I love the open-map style
I'm not the only one who had a complaint about the news post and I stated my opinion as a moddb visitor never as an Infinity member. It's sad to see you see my opinion about the news post as an act of jealousy and boycott from Infinity. I clearly stated multiple times that I like the project and am always happy to read news post about the development of the game. Never did I mention Infinity in all of this, and its not because Im managing the Infinity profile on moddb that I shouldnt be able to state my honest opinion about things on moddb.
Instead of discussion it in a mature manner with me you take it on a personal level and say I’m someone who don’t follows his "promises”, call me "jealous" and "angry" and feel you have to contact the Infinity team instead of me. Therefore I take this as a personal attack on me.
I've decided to resign from the Infinity moddb team(im not even part of the dev team), to make clear that this has nothing to do about them, and I don't want to get them involved in it further. I will talk to the moddb crew about this and I will contact you in private about this too!
I accept nothing less than your apologies to me and to the Infinity team, not for disagreeing with what I said about the newspost but for getting Infinity involved in this, which has clearly nothing to do with this!
Thats all I have to say about this in public, If you feel the need to insult me even more and or just want to have a normal discussion, you can always contact me: alphaorionis01(at)gmail.com
They made the promise to the people who care, that’s why there's an option to show the news post for people who "watch" your project on moddb. For other gamer’s modders and developers this is not interesting or relevant to what they hope to find on moddb.
And because I don’t like to see relevant news being bumped down by pinkbeard news you conclude I don’t hold promises? I do, I just don’t post them on a website about mods and game development. Its not because I feel it’s a good idea to make a promise about something that this makes it relevant to be front-page news.
So making a complete news post for every web comic page that gets released is front-page worthy in your opinion? For me its not, but I'm sure its great for the people who "watch" the project (again use that option) In the ends its also possible to make a news post about it when the full comic is finished, instead of doing it for every page.
And yes I would rather have it the Black Mesa Source way who don’t try to get in the spotlight every single day and still manage to get a large fan base and win awards on this website. At least they don’t bump down all the other news and still manage to impress people.
There is no way any project manages to have something front-page news worthy every day, yet you guys manage to get on top of the news almost every day, and you clearly start to notice that in the news subjects. I don’t really care if there’s a news post about a web comic, or one about pixel art, its just that it all starts building up with more and more of those kind of news posts and its starting to annoy me a bit. Still the news post about the actual development of the game are always very interesting and great to read/see.
I did, still don’t see why it has to be posted on the front-page of moddb as Overgrowth news.
As someone already mentioned a couple of news posts ago, I also start to get the feeling they try to get on top of the newspage every day! I wouldn't care if it was actual real news about the game, but news so far have been about a pink beard, pixel art, web comics and 4 or 5 news post about the same 'organic' game pack you could buy. For those things there’s an option to post news for people who watch the game only, this shouldn’t be on the front-page. I see no other game or mod do this and I hardly see any other game or mod on the top of the front-page everyday!
I think Overgrowth is an amazing project but I rather not have the other mod/indie news get bumped down every day by stuff like this.
@ moddb crew: is there a way I could filter out Overgrowth news or something?
So what does this have to do with Overgrowth?
Looks fantastic! Hope it plays the way it looks ;)
yay for jelly! ^^
Well since you plan to promote your puzzle mod by making us "think" I hope you can make the regular teasers/updates interesting enough to keep us puzzling with them. The first one looks very cool and intriguing already!
You've got my attention! ^^
Good luck with the project!
Looking good, great variation between the maps!
probably not enough ;)
How much? ;D
Only keeping comments you like, and deleting all the others is not going to give you a lot of fans. It's called "freedom of speech", what you do is "censoring". Have you ever seen any other serious developer do this? Deleting comments from people, just because you don't like them, will make people angry, you feed the trolls! If you don't want comments on your work, just don't show it to the public or don't use an open-community like moddb!
Start closed-development and when you are ready sart closed testing to get your feedback. In concept stage thats not needed anyway.
Yes this is my "feedback", but since its probably feedback you don't like its going to be deleted I guess?
Amazing, great to see the 'duvel' sign hasn't been changed! :D
Interesting! Should we expect to see teasers on a regular basis, or will it take time?
It's not a mod. And no, no new videos.
Most of the work being done now is less eye-candy related
Yeah sure thing, not sure what's to be jealous about, but thats probably it!
Yeah but it feels a bit arrogant, to me.
I can understand projects making newsposts during this period especially to get some extra votes (I've done it too). But actually asking for it in the newpost and making it the newspost title is just not done imo (it's even in the thumbnail image!), those projects never get my vote.
So, now every moddb project has to make a newspost to ask for votes?
'walk' no, 'driving ground vehicles' probably :)
also, will you release a mac version too?
Not all the ships that get made for infinity will make it into the game. Also we have a lack of good texturers to give all those ships a nice texture, This is becoming a bit of a problem!
So we don't have that many finished ships for the game.
I have some teeth of this guy.
Looks very good!
Just like any unreleased mod/indie game on this website, like for example 'A Galaxy of War', isn't it?
ok sounds good :)
What about Top 5 Upcomming Indie Games?
Amazing what you are doing, it looks original, I love the setting and its so different from any other mod I've seen so far (both gameplay and visuals)
Well it’s still a tool just like the tools we modders have been using for years. The difference is this tool is so easy use that everyone can work with it. Does that make it less 'modding'? Where do we draw the line exactly? Is modding based on how difficult the tools are to use?
I see that you make a link with character creation you see in lots of games but it’s different. It’s a lot more complex and flexible and the creations are used in other people’s games and not restricted to your own game.
It’s funny but interesting to see that the line between modding and character creation is becoming very vague
looks amazing, so are those real animations or just static atm?
I study gamedesign (conceptial and game art)
Yeah I'll probably try it
Everyone is still trying all the new things, play some more; the mod is pretty balanced.
Well those are core parts of PVK (the original and PVK2), you can't just delete those from the mod. I guess you are new to PVK? ;)
Maybe when the ship is finished and has a real texture ;)
A great map for a great mod! :D
Geo-morphing isn't implemented yet, thats why you see the 'object popping'.
wow, this must be the most original mod for hl2!
And this baby has been modeled already too!
Thats what I call great teamwork ;)
I would love to see a vid of this, I wonder what the velociraptor looks like in action.
You will spend a large amount of time on the planets so ofcourse there will be a lot to do.
ex: You will be able to explore the surface of all the planets(minus gas giants) and it will be possible to find cities, ruins, primitive alien lifeforms,...
Space ships will be able to fight on the planets and we might add some ground vehicles too.
Thanks and yes its all work-in-progress. The rendering of water is extremely basic at this point, we've only created a simple shader that generates a per-pixel water normal by blending together 4 normal maps coming from perlin noise fBm.
As I said on the ES forums, amazing stuff!
thats amazing, It looks like COD2.
Yes this is what it looks like in-game
It will work, trust me
lol PanFrie those are not real lvl, just renders but it still looks very good!
great work, looks pro!
