After x18, Wolf leaves the rookie village with some dynamite, and is often found dead (but sometimes alive!) in the Army Warehouses. Fanatic takes his place looking after the rookies :)
1: You will play as Wolf, not a random Stalker :)
2: The mod is created on, and for, the English retail/Steam version of Call of Pripyat.
Wolf is commonly found dead in SoC, but since WotW will take place even before Clear Sky, it's alright.
Firstly I'd highly recommend playing through vanilla first, it's the best vanilla Stalker experience so far. It will also let you appreciate what mods actually change :)
Secondly, I'm afraid you must be patching the mod incorrectly if you're still getting the ranger station crash :(
You need to head to the bridge that crosses the Cordon towards the waste processing plant, and take the two keys out of the containers in the jeeps. Then use those to unlock the box in another vehicle on the bridge, and get the poison gas :)
They also impact performance a bit as well, so it's the trick of finding a good balance between that, atmosphere, inside-vs-outside levels and suchlike.
You need to install the patch, then start a new game. My guess is you've not installed the patch correctly or haven't started a new game :)

I'm as yet undecided. I think this time I'd like to appeal to a wider audience (as much as I love you realism fans) and go with a more vanilla-CoP gameplay experience as far as the economy and suchlike. There will be an option for Redux-level weapon ballistics however :)

Relevant to all three as it will add levels from both other games, and is a total conversion rather than simple mod for the game :)
That was fixed in an earlier patch, you just needed to start a new game :)
Things are going to be a little quiet for the next week or so - I have important exams I need to do, but afterwards the information will start really flowing :)
As explained in the ReadMe, the mod installs itself fine despite this error :)
