What does get me about this game is the comical (Hollywood) muzzle flash for weapons.

Your right, the game engine and the limited map sizes makes long ranges impractical from a tactical perspective. It doesn't fit the scale of the game, sadly.
But from a video making or custom scenario its still interesting.
For me the range is dependant on other factors, such as if the battlefield has been designed with the range in mind or if other mechanics are adapted to fit, like the AI engangement ranges etc. Vanilla worked well in its own way and worked for tactical perposes with the original limitations of the game. The MowAS versions increased ranges stressed out playablilty on some of the smaller maps when using anything more powerful than infantry.

This is great. Really good work and love the smoke and sound effects. Really excellent.
The meaning of the word has no bearing on the joke, merely the knowledge of its context.
A lot of things in the Movies don't make a whole lot of sense. Often things are changed or omitted that end up losing a great chunk of the character/detail/logic from the books & the things that are valued by many are left out. Leading them to be 'Peter Jackson's' LOTR & not Tolkiens.
I give these guys (devs) a whole lot of respect for setting the books & manuscripts of Tolkiens Arda first and walking a finer line. Especially as this isn't a movie but a rpg game where greater immersion and depth is greatly desired.
So let them create their project as they see fit. They are gracious & modest enough to recognise that views will differ on something so grand & engage with the community of enthusiasts of book & film to better the results.
Frankly I may not agree with every nut & acorn (so far I mostly do) but I'm not the one putting in the hours.

Attacking with a mine is known as suicide. They are intended for defence. They are great at protecting areas like flanks. I love making the enemy fear them. Mines are great because you don't need many to make the foe think twice about a charge and its sometimes good to let them know you laid some.
That better have a long build time, even with quick dry concrete. :-P

It would be good if the game spawned an entity for the smoke but it seems to be part of the object.
Sorry about the confusion.
I might have forgotten how the smoke fx spawns but if its an already crashed/distroyed vehicle at the start of the game, then each smoke fx is its own entity and can be located and deleted. I may have misremembered but thats how I think they can be prevented at the start of the game loading. If I'm way off, someone will correct me I'm sure.
Can't you locate and delete the fx entities for each smoke column? Or have I misunderstood what you meant? :-)

Just wanted to say I've done my own skins for fun from time to time and I recommend reducing the vibrance of some of the colours (in this case the green). From real life into a game world its always best to be careful with colours. I really like your work, great effort, keep at it.
I like the ones you've done based on historic paints and patterns best, top job.
p.s My avatar image isn't a good example of subtle or historic, but tiger skin on a kt, I had to do it, :).

If your using Vista or 7, print screen doesn't work that well. Best to use a third party screen capture software e.g. Fraps.

Have you made "upgrades" for these additional weapons like the vanilla ones? Because if so, thats a mental amount of work.
I'd love the ability to equip a c-mag at the price of handling, weight and a rediculous reload time.

Go for whatever you think fits the purpose or feel of the unit. Seeing how you designed it you probably have the best feel for what fits best after people give you some fresh ideas.

Unfortunatly I think a frigate already has that name from the original game (a Cybran frigate). Could get a bit confusing naming multiple ships from different factions the same.

Totally agree about the Roddenbery philosophy and "reboot" (ughhh I hate the term reboot, sounds like everything these days can be "wiped" and started again with a press of a button). I treat the two as competely seperate entities and only have a heart for the originals and TNG.

In the editor put in custom parameters in place of default values when creating a map area. You can also add to the map area using the terrain tools.

I think your removing too much colour, and the method your using seems to be the reason for the purple tint and the increasing lack of red and green.
Using the third one from the top of this page as an example, I would take the RAL 8017 (Red brown) layer and try to adjust the colour hue very gently to bring the shade closer to the middle one, yet not making it as bright.
I think its the method your using to remove vibrancy is too heavy and you need to find a balance between brightness and colour.
For a game I would usually lighten relative to the real world and reduce the colour vibrancy but only by small amounts.
They look suprisingly similar after using the samples. Although I still think there is something going on with the purple hue (that might just be the image), the new example is quite dark and its lost some of the contrast and highlights.
Was that using a straight sampling with no changes?
Because if it is I think it shows your own ones are are quite close and that it would be the result I'd expect without adjustments.
Like I said your choices are really quite accurate already, in my opinion they just needs a few tweaks here and there. Some of the best I've seen regarding history.
I actually had a set of colours from a paint suppliers colour chart who got it as close to the original as seems possible. They had the colours on their website for painting historic models. If only I could find the images I downloaded I'd give them to you. I'll PM you if I find them again.
I know it seems ironic and hypocritical looking at the King Tigers in my avatar and profile header, but they are intentionally garish and not recommended for combat :-P

The third one is also reasonable, although it seems to have a greater purple hue (they all have a slight purple in the third shade).

Just wondering has anyone thought of making a map a bit like those old metal maps from Total Annihilation, especially that one with lots of dividing walkways and closed off areas. Probably doesn't play well under the new mechanics but I used to love that map.

I already prefer this to Battlefield 3 for so many reasons.
That is an Iron Cross to correct you. Its known as a Balkenkreuz and unsuprisingly its related to the Iron Cross and is a symbol of the Wehrmacht Heer, the Luftwaffe, and the Kriegsmarine of the German armed forces not just the Wehrmacht.
I only mention this because everyone keeps wanting to split hairs about everything on the internet, so I reckon I'd have a proper go at it aswell.
