Here's a Let's Play from eGamer South Africa! :D

I adore this game. I haven't played anything like it, and really enjoyed derping out to it as much as possible.

I get that it should be played multiplayer primarily, but it's really fun to mess around and I had a great time recording :D

Looking forward to the full game :P

Keep up the awesome work!

Tody - - 110 comments @ Doorways: Chapter 1 & 2

Here is the finished Let's Play of Chapter 2 of Doorways, from eGamer South Africa :D

Chapter 2 - Part 1: Youtube.com
Chapter 2 - Part 2: Youtube.com

Focusing on the chapter itself, it's probably about an hour in length at maximum, which is a tiny bit on the short side, but I maintain all of my previous compliments in my last comment. At the end of the above let's play I give a full opinion, but to summarise here:

I find this to be a definite improvement over an already great chapter one. It's got more creativity and for certain a more aesthetically pleasing and artistically interesting world. You also definitely feel more under threat in this chapter, and I like the whole theme of the statues. I'd love to see chapter 3 continue this and deliver a fresh environment to explore that differs from what came before it. It was great to see in chatper 2.

I appreciate that the backstory has more of a presence here, but I still feel the narrative needs to be brought forward to a more important role, as it will help the game become more compelling.

Otherwise, the chapter as a whole flows very nicely, it's very intriguing, and the creativity in the gameplay is fast becoming what this series' biggest strength is. Perhaps the saddest part is knowing there's a long wait to chapter 3! :P

But keep up the excellent work. I'm a big fan of this game, and will be looking forward to more in future. I'll be in touch ;)

Best of luck with the launch, Tobias!

Here is a Let's Play of the first 30 minutes of Chapter 2 of Doorways, from eGamer South Africa :D

I will post the rest tomorrow or so, but this is just for anyone who wants to see more of the game past chapter 1 :)

I'm loving it so far. I felt Chapter 1 was really interesting and full of creativity, and Chapter 2 is definitely continuing that. The first half an hour was memorable and the gameplay was once again filled with intriguing puzzles that tread the fine line between simple and challenging, making for a very engaging experience.

I can't wait to get back into it and really didn't want to stop! :P Loving the visual design as well, it's even more awesome than the first chapter.

Keep up the excellent work, will return with complete feedback when I finish chapter two :)

Tody - - 110 comments @ Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs

Here is a Let's Play from eGamer South Africa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paDiX7F69NQ

I give a lot of commentary in there, but I have to say that from what I've played so far, my worries have turned up in the experience. I know The Chinese Room from Dear Esther, and they're talented and awesome, with a heavy focus on narrative, which is great because I love story.

However.

The Chinese Room are also not that big on "gamey" elements, and it shows as they've removed the sanity mechanics and oil and tinderboxes, simplifying the experience, removing resource management and reducing scare factor.

So far the story on offer seems really dark and intense, and I'm extremely interested to find out more, but the horror factor is near non-existent. It's nowhere from what I've played so far, and I'll carry on until I finish the game and upload the rest of that.

Basically, I'm getting the impression that for those who love narrative, A Machine For Pigs is an excellent choice. But for those who wanted the true sequel to Amnesia: The Dark Descent, this is not really it. And it's not really a horror experience.

In A Machine For Pigs, it seems heavily evident that you will experience a narrative, similarly to Dear Esther, rather than play it, as with The Dark Descent. This is The Chinese Room's style, and while it surely makes for damn interesting games and will most likely end up phenomenal in their upcoming PS4 exclusive, Everybody's Gone To The Rapture, it is not what Amnesia is meant to be.

At least not for me.

I will properly rate this when I complete it, but these are my impressions so far. High quality writing, great aesthetics and a compelling story, but it's not a horror game so far, and it's not a whole lot of Amnesia. You're not going to be quaking in your boots or screaming in terror for this one it seems, but you will experience a creepy and great story.

Take it from someone who plays dozens of horror games and has played Doorways chapter 1..it's very creative ;) Not in any way cheap, and uses jump scares very sparingly and subtly. It's much more about ambiance, gameplay and creative scares.

This game is awesome! It scared the crap out of me! Here is a let's play from eGamer South Africa :D

I'm sure I'll play this more. It's really a great effort. The atmosphere is incredible, and it's one of the best indie horror games I've played in a long while. It's visually great, apart from some minor glitchy doors and animations, and the sound and little background noises really add to the immersion.

This is fantastic, and I'm definitely going to play more. I'll try to wrap up all my thoughts in a review once I've played more, but for now my early impressions are extremely positive.

Excellent work, Marc and Wray and co! =)

Wow, I've heard a lot of great things about this game before playing it, and it really does live up to it =) This is an excellent mod, and a really creative and interesting game you've made, Cakebread :D It's entertaining, witty, and almost demands multiple playthroughs just to see where it goes.

I really appreciate the effort as well in the narrative and many ways in which you can veer off the path.

I can't wait for the HD Remix now, and I wish you all the best with developing it! I'll be getting it and playing it again as soon as it's out :P

Thanks for the game, voted it a 10 :D Well deserved!

I really, really loved this. You guys did a fantastic job of presenting an old-school beat em' up in a way that's entertaining, great to play and really funny. I only played a portion of the demo, but I was quite impressed with the variety you guys have, with reference to the amount of playable characters and abilities, and the art direction and graphics.

I also appreciate the amount of content you guys have in the game.

Awesome game guys, thanks for all the hard effort! :D

In hype for the release of chapter 2 :D I love this game, and I hope you remember the hands-on preview I did for it back at the beginning of the year =) This game is relaxing, looks absolutely beautiful, and is irresistibly cute! I can't wait for the release of chapter 2, you've done a wonderful job :)

I also really like the casual approach to the game. It's a game you play to wind down and relax, and that really separates it from other puzzle adventure games. There's almost nothing to dislike here, apart from the usual minor alpha bugs :)

Great job CrowbarSka, keep it up! I look forward to featuring Chapter 2 \;D?

I really liked the concept of this game, manipulating the level to advance through it is a cool idea that translated very well with the gameplay. It's so simple, yet so enjoyable to play =) I also love the art style (SO CUTE). I definitely admire how much content you've put into the game for it being a free download, and that's always great to see. It should keep anyone occupied for quite some time!

The only little issue I had was that sometimes the movement can be over-sensitive, and on these occasions it can be slightly hard to be precise.

Otherwise, I really had a good time with this game and I highly recommend others who enjoy platforms to check it out :D

Great stuff UlpoMedia! Keep it up!

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but our YouTube channel just started up a month ago, and one of our subscribers recommended this game to me :) So I gladly took it on, and I'm happy that I did!

You've got a great concept, fantastic art direction (my favourite part of the game was that and the setting), the dinosaurs hahaha how awesome, and I enjoyed the gameplay. Simple, yet very well crafted.

I enjoyed this a lot! Despite its quirky nature, it manages to be atmospheric, immersive and frightening at times! :D

Great stuff.

A let's play from eGamer South Africa \:D/

I finish the game in the second part. Wow. This game is awesome. You did a wonderful job in differentiating it from all other horror games out there. It's a stellar concept with equally great execution, and I was really surprised by the quality despite it being in BETA.

You've also used the Unreal Development Kit spectacularly =)

I play a lot of horror games, almost constantly, and this has to rank in the top list! :)

This game nails the most important aspect of horror. I always say that atmosphere is the heart of horror, and you really did bring it with Kraven Manor. It's immersive, unique, intriguing and varied. The setting is great, and I have to admit you impressed me with how you made the game freaky and scary despite it often being well-lit. Awesome.

I barely can think of anything negative. Bugs are subjective, and my playing experience was completely smooth. The most I can say is that the ending is a bit vague (not the final discovery, but just before that happens). And the platforming section got a bit trippy to maneuver properly. Often the case with first person. Another thing, which is a bit of a nitpick really, but the death-screen is pretty flat, and doesn't match the horrible ways you can die. The last thing I have to say is that your sprint limit gets in the way during one of the later chase scenes, and perhaps you should adjust it for the parts that require you to run (because running from something is scary, but running out of sprint juice every few seconds when you're trying to run can be a bit annoying)

Otherwise, fantastic work mate, I'll post my second part soon :)

The easiest way is to go to the path file of the game, which is usually "Program Files/Desura/Common" and you'll find your games there, so you can see how large each one is.

But you should see when you download the game anyway =)

Here's a lets play from eGamer South Africa :D

I have to be honest though because I feel some constructive crit can really help this game.

This game is high quality for starters. The graphics are fantastic, the Unity engine is used expertly. The setting is great for a horror game.

But there are two major flaws that are holding the game back a bit. I seriously believe that this game has the potential to be GREAT. An easy 8 or 9 out of 10 (I don't like number ratings, but just to give some perspective). Right now these two flaws sort of made me stop playing

(POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

1) An objective isn't given. I'm not saying we need to be spoon fed or told exactly where to go, but there is very little indication of what you're trying to do on the Island. I think if you add some context here, it could improve the game, because the introduction and prologue is wonderfully done and got me hooked immediately.

2) The biggest problem with the game (make or break here) are the mechanics behind Lumber Man. He is very slow, and the game has no urgency when he appears. He just casually strolls after you, and you can pretty much watch him and walk circles around him without fear of getting killed. This removes the scare factor and breaks atmosphere/immersion.

You did a magnificent job with the modelling. He looks/sounds awesome and animates brilliantly, but because he poses virtually no threat, the fear is lost.

Recommendations:
- Perhaps make him charge at you if you stare at him for longer than 2 seconds. Even if his speed just increases the longer you look at him. He's too slow.
- In addition, maybe add a sprint mechanic, because running from things is very intimidating, but walking away doesn't quite have the same intensity.
- It might be a good idea to make you able to "escape" him, where (like Slender) he goes away and can return at any time.

I hope my comment has proved useful =)

Thank you for your criticism, I don't take offense, I take it all to heart. Ivan has contacted me directly and I will definitely speak to him privately about it.

Just to say a few things though, I didn't know about the crouching thing, so that's my bad. I thought I was simply frozen while the cutscenes/important dialogue were on. As for the zombies interacting with objects, the thought crossed my mind but I admit I did think it was a bug when I stood behind one of them for five or so seconds. It would be a common mistake to make.

I can agree with you about the intro, and I will definitely take that on the head for future. I'm still relatively new at this (channel is two weeks old), and was concerned about time (as I time myself while playing).

As for the directions, in the gameplay segments I cut out of the video, I had opened the mission log numerous times, and knew "what" to do, but the hints that appeared on screen disappeared for me after taking two steps forward, and I couldn't read them in time, and that's what I complained about. For instance the plank one.

I don't take offense at all, and I would be very happy to retry and do a better job with the second part. All criticism is welcome, so thank you =)

I think my biggest mistake was skipping the intro. I'll take what you've said to heart and do better.
