The fundamental problem with paid mods isn't the fact that people might have to pay money for mods. It's the fact that mods themselves are not cross-compatible with each other and very unstable compared to official patches/dlc because they're not supported by the original developers. Modders have the freedom to modify the game however they want, and sometimes they modify the game executable itself. This obviously causes conflicts with other mods. So what happens when you pay for one mod and it doesn't work with the other? Or what if you pay for a mod and it breaks your game? Modders are not bound by proper quality assurance, and that's the core of the issue. If we're paying money for a product, we better get what we paid for. People who pay for mods are no longer freeloaders, but CUSTOMERS.
There is a way to implement paid mods, but it will be at the cost of the modder's freedom to create what he wants. In order to make all paid mods cross compatible, a system will need to be implemented which will restrict mods from making drastic changes to the game. Basically, paid mods will be nothing more than endless DLC of items, unlike the total conversion mods that you would come to expect out of paid mods.
God you guys are killing me! I literally check this page everyday for updates or a release ;)
Isn't that the Taidani mothership from the FX mod? Did you get permission to use this? As far as I know the FX team has never let anyone use their models before.
Any new updates?
Completely untrue. He said in an interview that he has no comment about the Homeworld IP and that it was THQ's deal. Nothing else. He never said he'd not buy the Homeworld IP, but he never said he wouldn't buy it either. Blackbird has their own project to do called HARDWARE, but that game is already close to completion. It's going into closed beta very soon, and the full game is to be released in less than a year. I would rather take the chance that they buy Homeworld's IP after finishing HARDWARE than have a group of teenagers that have absolutely no experience in game development take Homeworld's IP. They're more focused on releasing the first two games on tablets and touchscreens than developing Homeworld 3.
NO! Do not support TeamPixel! They have absolutely 0 experience in developing games, and would not be able to continue Homeworld's legacy in the way it should be done. Our best hope is still Blackbird, and although they are working on HARDWARE, there is still a chance they might buy it. I'd rather have the Homeworld 2 license float for a couple years until BBI buys it rather than have TeamPixel completely massacre the Homeworld IP.
The Kadeshi doesn't work on 0.0.3d beta. But I'm guessing it'll be fixed when the actual 0.0.3d comes out.
Good to see you're active on the mod again, Pouk. I'm excited to see what new ships you'll make for us ;)
It's great you guys are combining GenX, EC, and FF, but don't you think the art styling is a bit different to combine into one mod? The EC units look significantly different than the Gen X and FF units.
Can you add an option to disable research (everything researched at the start) in the custom game mode?
I'm guessing it's a howitzer. Long barrel, with the turret extended all the way to the back of the tank. Definitely looks like an artillery unit.
Then wait patiently. I've already tried the last alpha build (contra 008 alpha 2) when it was leaked (you can't obtain it anymore) and trust me when I tell you, it's not ready for release.
Personally, I don't think the robotics general needs this kind of VTOL unit. Granger is the one lacking in this area as he only has the RAH-66 and the Combat Chinook. Almost all of Granger's units are for hit and run, including the new Pavelow, and it gets harder to handle a massive push from your opponents when you simply don't have enough space to build more airfields. Also, it's hard to handle any sort of transport drop from an opponent (especially infantry) because most of the firepower gets directed at your own buildings. Robotics already has the Orca, and he doesn't really need any more than that. What I think robotics needs is a remote controlled tank or any sort of medium damage and high armored vehicle until you can reach rank 5.
Edit : These changes are considering a human vs human situation of course.
This has been said many many times. Mr. Thi, you really need to make the font bigger or do something to make the text more noticeable. People usually don't read everything on the description of the mod before they post comments.
Yes, is there any fix? I can't wait to play with the new units in the campaign.
The campaign missions don't work at all with v2.8.1. Anyone got a fix? All of the missions crash at "Load Level" even when I modify the persist files to just spawn with mothership.
Campaign does NOT work at all. The game crashes at "Load Level".
Just played the mod. I thought when you said "ally system" that you could spawn Turanic Raiders or the Nassar and they'll attack the enemy but you oculdn't control them. Wow I'm an idiot. =O Great release. Hopefully we'll see some story behind the Nassars and some more ships for the Hiigarans in general.
Beghins, I never knew a mod leader could be so.... Childish.
Don't get me wrong, your mod is great, but a lot of the models seen in your forums are open for other modders to use, and apparently, Pouk gave you permission to use his supercarrier in return for a script. Now you're bashing him saying he's stealing your content? Grow up. Your reputation just went down the drain. Also, REARM and Complex has two different styles of gameplay. Same with Path of Victory and REARM. Mololu was very nice to let Pouk use some of his models in REARM, since I like the classic gameplay of Homeworld 2. You don't see Mololu come in here and bash Pouk for using his models after he gave it to him.
Will you guys add any units from Halo Wars? I'd especially like to see the vulture in the game.
Here is the unit list:
I don't know if Microsoft would let you guys use their designs but just a suggestion.
I meant, "Will the Turanic Raiders stay as an ally race that you cannot play with?"
I don't see why the Raiders wouldn't be developed as an important race in the galaxy. The pirates were seen pretty frequently in homeworld 1 and cataclysm, and plus, who wouldn't want to play as the Raiders? I doubt they could be added right now, but I must beg of you that the Raiders be added as a playable race faction in the future. Much like the Kadeshi the Raiders have a very "hit and run" like playstyle, and I feel that the Vagyr, Hiigaran, and the Progenitors lack the units to use hit and run tactics effectively.
Also, I don't mean to ask too many questions, but will you be adding the Progenitors as a playable race in the future as well? I thought that the mod will only feature the two main races but then when I started to see screenies of the Kadeshi and the Raiders I can't help but hope that this mod turns into a major project much like FX Commander mod, which is now dead.
Will the Turanic Raiders always stay as an unplayable but ally race in some sort of campaign mission? Is there any chance that the Raiders will get their own slot as an additional race as well?
This is great! As a fan of both the REARM mod and the Path to Victory mod, huge thanks to Mololu for letting Pouk use his models in REARM! I always wanted to use Mololu's great ships in the same play-style as HW2. And since REARM keeps the original play-style of HW2, everyone's happy.=)
YES!! Does this mean mololu's kadeshi is being used in this mod like I requested just a week ago? o_0 Can't wait!
I really wish you combine this mod with your end of times mod. This one I've already played so I KNOW it's good. The other just looks so good I can't stand waiting for it. Why not combine the two?
Sorry! I did not mean to pressure you or offend you in any way. In fact I shouldn't have mentioned your mod in another mod.
Would it be possible to ram other ships with this? I hated it when the needleships rammed my destroyers during the HW1 campaign. I wish I get a chance to do the same to other players.
I love your style in models and textures! Every modder has different styles that they create. I think I like this the best. For some reason it brings back the original homeworld feel. I can't quite put my finger on why. Anyway, I would love to see how you would create the turanic raiders race. Pouk did a wonderful job in recreating the carrier, but since I haven't seen updates recently from his mod...
I for one support your decision in making this into a real game. Here is what I would like when you're putting this in stores next year.
At least 8 maps, and full support to the community (EX. patches, updates such as new maps and vehicles for FREE).
I would definitely buy this game for a couple of bucks.
But my question is... would these hover units be able to move sideways while attacking and move backwards as well? It is a very important part of the features from the hover based vehicles in 2142.
In several mods from CnC Generals Zero Hour, they were able to make helicopters fly sideways and backwards and attacking at the same time.
I would love this feature to be implemented on these vehicles.
