Report RSS My thoughts on the Big three (Of video game consoles)

So today, I forget when, I was doing something stupid. I tend to think of my most brilliant Ideas when doing something worthless. Like walking upstairs and grabbing a cookie. And I usually forget. But not this time. No this time I thought I would write a essay about Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.

So first, I will write about Microsoft, since I'm a huge fan of the Xbox 360. So I think where Microsoft beats Sony and Nintendo is that they've always had a more user-friendly product. The software for the Xbox 360 is a lot better then the PS3's or Wii's. The reason I think is that Microsoft is pretty much the Operating System king. Chances are is that you're reading this on a Windows computer. For the people who are reading this on a Mac or Linux can just pretend for the next few minutes. Microsoft made a TON of money pretty much because they're the first people to make a computer OS that the non computer person could use. That and later on when Apple were making macs, the windows computer was cheaper (I think the OS on macs are what makes it so much) so the people with less money bought PC's. So Microsoft got into the game knowing how to make things easy on the user and that's why they reign supreme on the Software side.

Sony, while not having amazing software, still has pretty fair software. But were they really stand out is hardware. The PS3 went Blu-Ray for their games so off the bat the games could add more content and make it be able to handle more. The PS3 is really just a work horse. I've never heard of any PS3 having problems were it freezes or crashing. This doesn't really surprise me as Sony makes Computers and TV's and stuff like that. So they know how to make a better machine and that's why they reign supreme on the Hardware side.

Nintendo has sold the most because most of their titles appeal to family and little kids. The whole sucky motion control helped bring in money to. Nintendo doesn't tend to have violent shooters on their systems. I mean, sure every console has a couple of adult games, but Nintendo is still more family and child oriented the Microsoft or Sony. I think most of this has to do with Nintendo making icons like Mario, Kirby, Donkey Kong, etc etc. Nintendo also has more experience in the console field then Sony or Microsoft. And that's why they reign supreme in the sales side.

Here is my overall breakdown of how I think the console go.

  • Xbox 360: More Hardcore. While the PS3 has it's Hard Core titles, the PS3 also has more Family games then the Xbox.
  • PS3: In the middle. It could go either way Hardcore, or casual. For the PS3 it really just depends on what game you play for it to be Hardcore or casual.
  • Wii: More Causal. As I've said, Nintendo is more family and children the Microsoft or Sony.
