Because the first one was on idtech 4 and they already add the bases made on it, they just needed to improve it a little. No engine is a closed box idtech 4 is a tool and you can make radically different games and looks with the same engine, and if you have the source code, like they have, is totally possible to change the engine looks the way we want it.
BTW idtech 5 is just a evolution from idtech 4, the only difference being that idtech 5 has baked radiosity lighting and improved Megatexture tech.

No i don't think such thing, and why port a render why not port the assets themselves, be that models, levels, scripts, etc to the new engines are they so different that makes that an impossibility? Mind you i'm not criticising your decisions or even imposing anything is just genuine curiosity. So far everything looks fantastic.
why are you guys making a dx10 render anew? Don't you have access to the later games engines?
Do i need to have UDk installed to play? I'm asking because it gives me a error about not finding udk.exe
Never but never go above 2k for anything but terrain if you want a good looking but playable game, is nice to see the small details on the 3D app but ingame very small details just become noise and the high rez texture just takes performance away.

They have realeased the engine source of their Penumbra games called HPL, and theres also some mod tools but aren't very easy to work with.

That is a very weak nuke it looked more like a simple rocket explosion, see the nuke explosion of Crysis for a great example of a nuclear explosion simulation.
I don't see what you say, i see a simple tail, what they could do is give to the wolf some tail animations or physics just like the rabbit ears.

I don't know if this is a engine problem or intensional but on some maps the skybox moves very strangely, when i rotate the view the sky looks like as if he is imovel and the map geometry is the one moving instead, it looks very odd and immersion braking for me, it is also the same in other doom3 engine mods. Does it have anything to do with the portal sky thing?

Valve is not a Indie studio in the way i see indie studios, yes they are independent and yes that's what indie means but the word indie studio is for the most part used to classify small teams even if they have publishers, Valve is BIG and a AAA game maker developer, for example the Penumbra developers add publishers for their first 3 games and were still considered a indie studio.
The art direction of this game (that i concur is simple but effective) as nothing to do with the engine, C4 engine (that can be bought for $100)is as capable of great visuals then the UDK or even better, with the added benefit of not having to pay anything after selling the game to the engine developer. I know many indie teams and is very hard to bring a full game in a timely manner to the market with AAA graphics, that is the example of Zero point software, Wolfire Games, unknown worlds, etc, they all have very good looking games but are years still from completing them.

About Valve not doing this kind of work, they could, they certainly have good artists, the problem is that a full game has to have a limite to how much time you can spend detailing a level, because of money and performance constraints, remember this mod will have very little in terms of AI, NPC's, etc.

What was missing on Unigine for your guys to change for UDK?
It looks very good on UDK by the way, but changing engine now will not set you guys back many months? Or is the game really far from completion that a change now will not have a big impact?
Maybe you guys could ask if you can share assets with the dark mod team your mods are very similar as levels objects is concerned.

Nice work and the engine looks really good but one thing striked me as ode, can you explain why the shadow of the objects overlaps the hand model when they shouldn't do that? Is ode because the shadow is casting the other way.

Yes Spearhead is correct, that account will give you access to the 2ª and 3ª game of the IM trilogy for free (and other goodies), you can also convert support medals (5€ each) to a spearhead account if you buy enough of them.
So if you don't have enough now to buy the full Spearhead or even the frontline account them just buy support medals and you will support the AAAindie idea, the making of this game and also maybe have exclusive early access to the multiplayer preview slice, ZPS did that with Running Man.

Fantastic atmosphere and SotaPoika said exactly what i though. Maybe you guys should think making some small single player horror based game ala Penumbra? It could be the break you are waiting for and can be made with a small team like yours.
Sad to hear that you are cancelling the game but saying that is because Crysis 1 engine, Cryengine 2, is ancient is just crazy talking, i consider ancient engines the Unreal 1 and Quake 1&2 and old the Quake 3 and Unreal 2 engines for example, Cryengine 2 is by no means imo a ancient engine, not even Cryengine 1 is to me ancient, perhaps a little above old. You also don't need a very recent engine to make a successful game, for example Cry of Fear was made using the gould source engine (Half Life 1) and was a very successful game gaining prizes and has a big community making missions to it.
Has someone that is interested in making a horror game i would like if you elaborated on that, why do you think the above image have a better horror atmosphere then the bottom one? I'm not messing with you this is a genuine question.

I still can't entirely comprehend how without the source code for the goldsource engine you guys can change so much, and if source code is not needed why something like what you guys show was not possible before even tho other just talented developers worked with it!?
Graphics and effects AAA quality.
Gun sounds need more love, even if you think in the future they would make guns more efficient and quiet, on a game, loud and powerful sounding guns are more fun.
Voice Acting will make or break your game story, and right now if you don't improve it, then imo it will hurt your game.
Do you know En.wikipedia.org has a Rapture3D user (headphones only) i just love this kind of sound realism in games, by making the recording binaural then you would make this available to anyone, no need to buy Rapture3D or even some expensive 5.1 system or expensive Headphones.

Sorry for the late reply found why your mod was crashing on the blue vial, it was because i add a custom ammo def on my doom 3 base folder i also edit doom 3 has a hobby i removed it, then it worked, what i find strange is why your mod would crash because of my custom def, maybe for some reason there's some naming clash on there?
No i can't say i did, but if you are a developer on it is nice to know.
Amen brother. Gamers are what make game developers/moders keep doing what they love but they can also be some winy bitches, see the case of the Black Mesa guys, i never saw a mode team be so attacked i will be impressed if they find the will to finish their mod at all, i hope they do.

I still think CryEngine 2 is the best engine for PC games because it was custom made especially for a PC only game, Cryengine 3 was optimized (nerfed) to run on console hardware and that shows on any forest scene that i see from it imo they look worse. The tools on Cryengine 3 are another story they are really fantastic.

If you are going indie them that is another thing, i was desapointed by the engine change, but now i understand why, so that said, i hope all the success for you and that your game sell like cakes so you guys gain the money to buy the engine this game truly deserves, CE3.

We are returning to the old era of character shadows being distinct from the world shadows. Doom3, Crysis, stalker and many others changed that but on that Rage image the character shadow is obviously distinct from the world shadow next to it.
That imo is sad coming from id that was before Crytek the first ones to advance gaming tech.
Sorry to say this but using assets from Modern Warfare 2 without having the requirement to have the full game will give you guys trouble, they certainly wouldn't want that and afaik you can't by law use assets from a game to use on other even if they are from the same company (like you can't use Crysis stuff on Farcry and for example that Crysis mapper that was making a level using Oblivion assets that was asked to stop even when he said it was not for release), my advice is for you to ask permission first before they close your mod.
About your mod it looks promissing and I wait pacientaly for it.
Nice video, two things that i saw that hope are WIP.
1- The T-800 having blood in their exoskeleton form?
2- The T-800 are Bulletproof so i hope you have plasma and rayguns to take them down because a M4 assault rifle certainly wouldn't.
In what engine are you guys thinking going commercial? The C4 engine as becoming a very good option.
