I've been thinking about doing this before, but I had never taken the time to actually do it. I plan on creating a series of tutorials about the basics of GIMP, from layering to color removal, to brushes, and more. I've had a couple of people ask how I do certain things, and I haven't been able to tell them outright in a comment as it'd be rather long for a comment. So I'll put the tutorials into easy and quick blog reads, along with some pictures to guide you along and you should be good to go.
I'll start with layers and how they work, along with a simple opacity trick which should get some wheels turning for you guys. I'll probably use the same picture as the base for the rest of the tutorials, so that it will be familiar. If you guys have any ideas or tips, let me know!

Sounds good. Would you please make me a header?
Sure thing :)
Just let me know what you want! e.g. colors, text, scheme, etc.
There are already good GIMP tutorials + it's easy to learn.
Too true, but how many people go and search for them? That's the other part.
I have several that are pretty nifty that I found a while back which I'll probably add along with the blogs.
Ok, so for the header I want blue text in the center of it that says "501st Legion" and under that a 501st clone paratrooper helmet, reference image on wookipedia Starwars.wikia.com and a black background. That will be all, thanks!
Would you mind if I used a different helmet? Finding specific ones on Google is hard: Google.com
I'll continue searching though :)
Thats a good helmet.
Alright! I'll get to work on it.
Thanks! And please take youre time.
