Both have different visions indeed.
Fanboys complaining about negative comments about Edain but bash AotR... X)
You make no sense. You clearly don't know what you're talking about if you think AotR is trying to make a BFME 3. Instead, their purpose is to make a mod, that clearly improves gameplay, much like Edain. No one here condiders Edain and AotR like a whole new game, because it is not their claim.
Much saltiness in the comments here!
Tom Bombadil wasn't a fighter at all, I hardly see how he could be implemented as a hero.
Thing is, Angmar is empty and doesn't exist anymore by 2941-3018 TA.
Agandaur is much like Mouth of Sauron, with less leadership. In my opinion -and I respect yours- he shouldn't make an appearance. However, as DúnedainRanger said, the Remnants of Angmar could be added for Gundabad, for instance.
Those are Black Uruks. They're naturally stronger and bigger than the usual orc rabble.
However, the poisonouss blades and arrow tips sounds like a good idea, to give orcs more power.
In the end, they shouldn't be a good as Gondorian or Elves. Morgul and Dol Guldur orcs could have a slight armour and damage bluff, but in anay case they should go toe to toe with the finest or best units good factions can field.
They are meant to swarm their enemies. I know in the books, they are dangerous but mostly because they're fighting in hoards. When they don't have a leader they're easily dispatched. Maybe give them a bonus when you have gathered many orc batallions?
Orcs shouldn't have "upgraded" weapons. They're Sauron's lowest servants.
For that you already have Morgul and Dol Guldur orcs.
First, your mod looks really great so far! Models ands textures are top notched. I especially like the diversity among the weaponry.
I got a few concerns though:
1- Concerning factions, would there be any scripts that prevent said "allies" ones to attack each other if Mordor has been destroyed?
2- if "minor" factions such as Ered Luin are to be made, will they eventually be under Dáin Ironfoot's rule in some way?
3- how much settlements do you plan to create? That's a hefty amount if you're focusing on Gondor/Rohan and Mordor alone.
With the new animations and stances, we're going to make Anorien spearmen the same way they forme the shield wall in RotK, with Gandalf to support them.
"You are soldiers of Gondor! No matter what comes through that gate, you will stand your ground!"
Can't wait to play that epic music in the background, with my units impaling those pesky orcs and trolls :p
They're infantry only, as far as I know. Your idea sounds awesome though. Or to satisfy everybody, I don't if it's possible to give them a switch between foot and mount. That might sound like a good compromise, but it's hard to code and animate apparently.
I didn't know that! Thank you for that interesting information :)
Good to hear! Time to skewer some horsemen!
They remind me of TATW's Variags for some reason. But if it's a polearm, wouldn't give them some versatility against cavalry as well?
Thank you for the answer :)
Will the IA be smarter on siege maps?
Yes! That's why there are the zealots :)
Not especially in my humble opinion. Eastern nations favoured axe and axe like weapons as much as scimitars :)
It's fair to assume Khandish warriors could have used those weapons in Tolkien's world.
He does look like a warrior from a "far away land". The helmet, the lamellar armour, the axe, and even the general concept looks totally original to me.
Even Tolkien never gave clear informations about them. The way AotR team designed it is original and gives more flavour to Mordor's roster. I think it was a good idea to make something different. If you look at TATW, you'll see there are some similarities between them :)
If I'm correct, Dwarves have already the Zealots from Ered Mithrin. Nordinbad is too small to have a role in a subfaction, and it's far less significant than Erebor or Ered Luin to cover a role similar to those subfactions. However, as a map, why not? It could an half subteranean fortress with a hilly landscape around it, covered by snow.
Indeed, it looks stern, although I like this depiction.
Concerning maps: will there be some more cities? I have some suggestions, such as Thorin's Hall, Framsburg or even Aldburg :)
Thorin's Halls: "The westernmost realm of the Dwarves, founded by Thráin II, and later ruled by Thorin Oakenshield. For many years, the Halls were prosperous, under Thorin's rule, with iron being extracted, the trade increased as well as the population".
Framsburg: "A settlement located at the foothold of the Grey Mountains, by Fram, son of Frumgar, ruler of the Eothéod, ancestors of the Rohirrim. Now, this city lays in ruins, but valiant men still keep a watch over it."
Aldburg : "Former capital of Rohan, built by Eorl the Young in the early days of the newly founded Kingdom of Rohan, this is the oldest city of the Realm. It is now the homeland of Eomer, Third Marshal of the Mark".
That's true! Edain and AotR are unique, they should stick to their originality.
I think EA was convincing concerning Gondor's buildings, Edain mod improved them even further and Age of the Ring expanded that logic.
Both are top notch mods, they always feel like a new game. If EA had more time and less pressure, I'm confident they would have given us a much better and deeper game than the vanilla BFME2.
They look natural in my opinion. The old model looked boring. I think it highlights the fact Gondorians were craftsmen and famous stoneworkers.
Will A.I be able to use their powers in a smart way? Could it be possible it adapts her strategy according to the player's stance?
As Gundabad, it would be intense and funny to burn the Shire down!
Revenge for Glorfimbul! Destroy 'em Halflings! Let their homeland burn to ash!
Thrak burzum tala tak! [Bring darkness above 'em!]
There is a chance we will :)
I hope they'll have a mix between mail and lamellar leather armour. They'll fit well as medium, solid infantry, maybe armed with axes and shields, or even better, battle axes.
And those will have areound the same stats as the Anorien archers. Man versus man, oh dear, it's going to be epic!
I know! Every single update of yours is very informative and entertaining to read!
I am really curious about the next updates!
-First, I'm expecting great powers that fits each faction to its story and style.
-I guess it's far from being a reality, but I'd love some teasers for the possible next faction :p (if the team plans to do so -which I believe they will-).
"Men of the East!Let's waste the West!"
