Damn why people are so unsatisfied with the news concepts Edain has implemented? Ask for "news units" and more "cool things"! All these comments made by lazy followers who don't obviously know how time consuming a mod is! I am just getting irritated at all the people saying the mod doesn't look good enough because it doesn't add "wannabe epic" units.
Nice and very informative update! Kudos to you all, Edain team members!
I wish BFME engine was more powerful, like Medieval Total War, so modders could have done the stuff they have always looked to implement. Like more units, bigger maps, etc...
However, I think with all the currents mods for BFME, we all should be happy ^_^
I have a question though: did any of you ever consider to put Half orcs for Isengard?
This could be a strong medium infantry equiped with large axes or bardiches.
Well said! Who knows, maybe these ideas will be implemented some day?
Ghan Buri Ghan is cool. Maybe as a hero for Druadan map for Rohan?
The problem is that Gondor is a huge realm, so adding units will mean adding buildings, heroes and balance them to not make the faction overpowered.
Lamedom militia would serve as an early infantry unit, swords, axes and shields.
Pelargir wardens could be a toogle heavy infantry unit (spear, sword and shields)
Lossarnach axemen, heavy two handed axemen.
Angbor and Forlong are interesting heroes, I join you Badger!
This mod was good! I remember it was left unfinished. There was good stuff, shame it wasn't updated anymore.
Your mod looks good. Azog shouldn't look like the one in the movie, in my opinion :P It should be unique to your mod :)
Awesome news! Three unique factions, sounds promising :)
No problem! Are Eriador and Harad the factions you had in mind for a while? I think I remembered of the Echoes mod and you were foreseeing a Dunedain faction.
You know what, Merovech? I always knew you were going to revamp the vanilla factions and make new ones! As the quality of your models, textures are as impressive as TDH, this mod couldn't stop to just add one faction (which is really well depicted by the way).
So, my words are: keep up the awesome work and good luck! I definitely track and support this mod!
I've read the books. At no point I've complained about the news units, but rather the canons for siege engines. That's not in the books. I love the other units Halbarad created. Both mods created non lore units and heroes by the way...
But I never praised my favourites everywhere! ^^ I know you add many awesome models, news ideas, news concepts. You can't disappoint me, I know Edain has flaws but I love it. Yes, it is in annoying when IA is sending waves of endless orcs, yes it can look like other mods. But the fact every mod has its letdowns and ups is part of the challenge.
I am going to be honest: I often check your work, it's always impressive. The detail, the textures, some ideas are well thought. Really!
And why should Edain go elsewhere than Middle-earth lore? I think that just breaks the immersion. You can make up units but if you start to include out of place stuff don't expect everybody to like it, even more troubling if you name it after Middle Earth's legendarium. But I never praised my favourites everywhere! ^^ I know you add many awesome models, news ideas, news concepts. You can't disappoint me, I know Edain has flaws but I love it. I am going to be honest: I often check your work, it's always impressive. It is just a matter of opinion.
Because I wanted to share my opinion. Take it easy, I like your mod. I just said Edain is the best and my favourite one. That's subjective, nothing more. I accept people can dislike Edain, they have their reasons. But I prefer to be frankly with my thoughts about your mod.
They are different but I didn't say both can't be compared. And that's my opinion in overall.
Edain is still the best. Halbarad's work is impressive, but both mods are completely different. I agree this mod is underrated. The canons and non LOTR stuff is out of place yet the models are astonishing.
True! Both of you are right! If I am correct, Elves gave the Ents the gift of speech.
They have a bond with nature, they should stay together (with Woods Elves).
Since you bring a whole different gameplay to the mod, is it safe to say the Dwarves campaign will be unplayable? Or unstable due to the changes?
I tried to make a joke, but I miserably failed! :/
We gonna have a load of heroes for every faction.... I knew they were... trouble, trouble, trouble!
Guys... Another question: what about second breakfast? What about elevensies? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? You know about them, right?!
That would have been awesome! :D
For gameplay's sake Lorien buildings shouldn't be too strong or resistant. I know Galadriel did use her ring to protect the Golden Wood, but the problem is that if Lorien has heavy resistant structures like Erebor or Gondor ones than it would be unblanaced :/. You have a very good point though. I agree with Mallorn Trees they should surrounds the base, and at least having a light wooden palissade with ivy to hide it. A natural protection yet not too hard to destroy but enough to protect the castle from intruders. Johnny595 and you have both great ideas, it's how I foresee the Woods Elves ' defences concept.
Concerning Lothlorien faction, I may got an idea, but I am sceptical about it. But I 'll give it:
-since Woods Elves are closer in terms of relationship and bond with the nature, I was thinking of having a base made of trees and grass.
1) The wall is without doubt the hardest element to imagine, and to have something that really fits well with Lorine style and Tolkien's lore, the idea is to have a moat and a green wall, but not walkable unlike other Good factions.
2) The wall shouldn't get upgrades, instead it should have smaller plots near the wall to allow the construction of Flets. It has only one gate and no secret entrance.
3) Since the Galadhrim and Silvan Elves did not use stone their strucures and fortifications should be weaker against siege engines and fire. This is true by the fact Lorien was attacked thrice during WotR and parts of the forest was damaged, as well as Thranduil's borders were set on fire.
What do you think?
Yes, but having Balrog as a permanent hero for Moria would still unbalance the game. Even if you have three sub factions you can still obtain the others units and heroes via camps or in outter settlements :)
If you don't care you wouldn't lower these points. But yeah, my question has been answered.
I guess you're talking about the Seven Blarogs and the Fall of Gondolin, right? If that's so, we're talking about the game, not the book, for balance sake.
Some lazy dude is downgrading all of our comments!
Thuor who are you talking to?
The Balrog will make the faction unbalanced if he was permanent. I hardly see him being spawn regularly by the Misty Mountains maggots, that would be boring and incredibly hard to win because of him . They already have Smaug and I don't think they need more super heroes. Moreover I hardly see the Balrog fight for the Goblins. He was more independant, even older than Sauron himself. Except if he wanted to lay waste upon Elves on his own or with Sauron's bidding, who knows ^^?
