Besides for some reason getting rid of his right shoulder and a slight tweak the the mask/ear, I didn't actually change much from this to the painted version. Even kept the tilted mask intact!

For some reason, it comes out far darker when I save it out of photoshop. I tried manually brightening it to see if I could make it look closer to the original, but to no avail. Take what you can get I guess.

The air units work just like stock renegade from my play with them so far, which to me is just fine.

The explosives did a TON of damage to infantry with direct hits in stock renegade, but I do notice a difference in blast radius in this version (It is definitely bigger), so maybe the splash damage should be lowered a bit to compensate. In stock renegade a missed explosive did basically nothing.

Unless you have steam up, use the RENEGADE LAUNCHER and set your nickname in that before launching to ingame menu or joining a server. The regular EXE will only give you your steam nickname if you have steam up, or else you will just be called "player" using it.

I hope the ping thing is an easily fixed bug. It would be really nice to see.

The middle 2 were both redone a bit after the wizard was finished, as they were originally done in around 20 minutes, and turned out fairly horrible because of it. I did however leave in the hilarious perspective on the Paladin because it made the portrait look funnier.

For the top 2 I did more recently, I tried a different style for each to see what I could come up with. They were the only 2 that had been posed for deliberately. I think both turned out pretty great.

They did seem to get better as I did more.

Both Warband and Napoleonic Wars need to be purchased on the same platform (ie: steam Warband + steam Napoleonic Wars; or standalone Warband + standalone Napoleonic Wars)

If you own a copy that isn't on steam, then no, do not buy a steam DLC for it unless you plan on re-buying the full game on steam.

So will you guys keep the setting for servers that makes it so you need a second player in vehicles to shoot while the first player drives? Always liked that in the original Renegade.

Yes why can't all fantasies be based on talking animals we can make friends with? Why not make some kind of animal friend simulator we can all enjoy?

Come on guys there are enough "Good" dragons in fantasy games too, but will that stop us from hunting them down? It hasn't in real life either has it.

Would definitely recommend advertising yourself on a few more MMO sites or trying to get an interview with a popular gaming site. Get yourself out there!

The game looks like it is coming along very well, so much so that I'm surprised you would even call this a pre-alpha!

Good Luck and hope kickstarter pulls through for you guys!

Any chance of making the game options say if they are on or off?

Any info on what the difference in the 2 gamemodes are? I assume it means you have a day limit in one mode and no limit in the other?

Anyways keep up the awesome work!

Fantastic work guys! Looking forward to the next patch. Put many hours into coop and single player with only one complaint: Those damn 2 chainsaw guys take RIDICULOUS amounts of ammo to go down, although it did make for some hilarious moments. Can't wait to try out the new maps!

Maybe after this you can remake RE:CB eh? EH?!

A few anatomy problems aside, I like how this one turned out compared to the many others.

I had a sketch of a big gun on the top of that thing in his let hand, but didn't finish it. Might also move the hair a tad forward on his head as it's currently sticking straight up. One of the cleaner works I've done in the past little while.

Well the bump is coming along (Though I can't see why any of the detailing in this shot need normal maps over bump maps), but because these are hard surface metal objects, get the bump off of them!

The metal grates or the square metal blocks on the roof do not need ANY bump besides for fine detailing, and it just ends up making every model look like a puffy marshmellow. It has the clay look of doom 3 is you will.

The other jarring thing to start thinking about is how intense the spec is on some metals but not others, it really makes it look odd. I'll assume you do not have ambient occlusion in the engine yet, but is it planned?

(I don't mean to come off as a prick sorry if I do)

I have a LOT of problems with the lighting and shadows (If you care to hear them and haven't changed them since this shot was made), but I do really like the layout and texturing!

I will say the skybox is very jarring to this colour palette. I would suggest a more overcast grey look to it.

I'm surprised the arches look as good as they do in this shot. BSPs absolutely hated me when trying to do stuff like that!

How is this like mount and blade? The combat mechanics are far different, it's primarily first person instead of third, and it has a much faster pace to it. Now I LOVE Warband online, and this is not comparable to it.

Just because both games are medieval styled, doesn't make them anything alike otherwise. (Like the borderlands looks like fallout 3 bs)

AlCool Mar 22 2012, 4:40pm replied:

The animations and character models aren't awful in Mount and Blade, especially not for the engine they are on, and the limitations of most peoples hardware. The problem with the animations and motion capture, is that some of them make no sense to how someone would actually swing the weapon.

I think a lot of what we see here are, like the jittering, probably have to do with the netcode or similar. The animations definitely do need some work though I agree.

As I've probably said before: why not try a student version of one of the higher end programs like Maya or 3ds Max? I mean you can't use it to make money but learning new and improved software could really benefit your already great work.

What made me go out to learn this is I had never tried to do it directly in Maya, though I knew you could in 3Ds Max. I'd worked with a few programs like crazy bump, mudbox, and zbrush and they all have their own place and use. For hard surface stuff, unless I need some fine details in the normals, this works incredibly well and is very easy to do.

What problems have you had with blender and baking? I could have sworn I've seen it done fairly well on that program before.

AlCool Mar 22 2012, 3:05pm replied:

Oh and a thing on the lighting, there is no shadows, and it is default lighting, so that's where the artifacts in the shading are coming from. I went and tested it to make sure it had nothing to do with the baking. It barely changes the look and what I was doing anyways, so I won't be updating the image here.

Well all these swords cutting through platemail and such. I don't see how someone could make a really good medieval combat game where many weapons are massively ineffective. Kinda like that ending fight scene in that one hamlet movie...
