My name is Alasdair and worked on the MERP project.
I bet theonering.net doesn't know the consequences of creating "ultimate fan projects" Theonering.net
Only the people that have spent a lot of money on merchandise can stay out of any legal mumbo jumbo with WB, but all of the other stuff is grounds for a C&D looking at their track record of giving them out.
IF a fan is able to spend years building this based on movie artwork: Matchstickmarvels.com
then why not let us do our thing with our own ideas and leave us be?!
I'll make a save MERP one for you
Thanks for making the page! I've added it to the news post above, but could you change the main picture to something a little more suitable please ;)
That is one point on our side. It will be released long after the hype of the hobbit films if need be.
We just have to hope Gandalf and the eagles spot us and bring us back!
amen to that
We have a set of things to work through, but we will let you know how everything is going in due time! ;)
It can be one reason, yes. Follows the same idea that one person torrenting a game is equal to one lost sale. WB is assuming that each download of this game, means that one person less is going to buy of of their LOTR games.
It is not just this though, as we will probably talk to you about in the future once we get everything sorted out.
If we had the time and the engine supported it, we would have done a 1:1 scale map of middle earth to give it the full immersiveness. It would actually take so many days in real time to walk from place to place, and isengard would be a mile wide. certain structures such as isengard can't be to scale with the world as it is. if they were, they would just be too small to look reallistic. isengard already fills up about 1/6th of the wizards vale, and if it was to scale it would have to be about 30x smaller than it is now. If the world was 10x smaller it would be 300x smaller than it is now. smaller than the player even. that would look totally **** :P
would you want a battle of pelennor fields with 10 orcs and 1 troll because nothing else could fit in the area?
I'm saying that the characters will follow the paths that they take in the books. You will be able to see them wherever they are, so no teleporting :P
We could even add "sneak shouts" to make the enemies even more scared :P Creep up behind someone and shout "BOO!" and they fall over.
Gollum would be wherever he's supposed to be in any specific point in the timeline ;)
A lot of your questions are answered in the FAQ already ;)
Well, this isnt a movie remake, so a lot of those wouldnt actually happen, or be hard to stop at all. playing as frodo, i'm sure he would have done everyhting possible not to get his finger bitten off, but it happened, and do you think one guy could stand in the way of the hoarde of uruks marching on the fellowship? :P
30C is very hot for ambient temperature :P It shouldn't cause good air cooling to make components overheat though unless they are clocked insanely. If so then just underclock or go back to stock in that heat.
+1 about the ROG boards. I agree they are great, i have one myself, but they are expensive and not for a first standard PC build. Even the cheaper boards are fine for standard usage. just get one that has the right amount of expansion slots, right socket, chipset and possibly looks for your build.
With the PSU, a good 700w would be around £80, and that would be fine running CF 7950's. a £20 700w psu may just run 1 of them, but the voltage could fluctuate a lot and that's no good for your components. It would also likely fail 75% of the time after a year.
I used to run an 8400 :P it runs dragon age origins on medium/low at 1280x1024
I take it that that is HD4200. What cpu and psu do you have in the computer?
We have discussed them, and even though they aren't high priority, we have discussed and planned a quest which involves them.
Afraid not. Our game still counts as a mod, and that seems to be for original indie games rather than mods ;)
If we fix things ourself or get permission to include certain fixes to things we deem necessary for gameplay or our new features then we will include them.
Very well at 1080p. I have a 6950, 1100t and 16gb ram and that plays it is firly well at 3240x1920. We haven't got to a point where there is a lot of distant buildings, scripts and other enounters running at the same time yet, so things will change. THat setup will probably be fine though. maybe add another 4gb ram for some extra headroom.
Yeah, if you want to change it, just use the CK and make a plugin with the changes.
Awesome, but if you are getting a good quality PSU, then getting 1200w may not be as efficient as getting something like an 850w which could easily power the system ;)
I would also say to build it yourself, rather than by a premade one. it is much simpler than you think and you get to understand the components used much better. (i can help you out of needed). For example i would recommend the i5 2/3500k over the AMD FX one. this generation of gpus do really well on both sides, although you could get dual 670's as they can overclock really well and close to 680 speeds. That will save you money and an amount of power too ;)
I should have better equipment and the EQ should be much better next time ;)
Just think about it this way: Will you have the same PC for the rest of your life? ;)
Captain: Bane of Trolls
We will make sure of that ;)
