My name is Alasdair and worked on the MERP project.
The problem is actually located deeper than the source code. It looks like it is located in the Havok libraries which Bethesda has no control over fixing or modifying.
I don't have any myself that i know of, but not sure about other people.
For anyone that is interested, here is a video I made a few years ago that was never public. It's a test video for the introduction of MERP (Oblivion) if you started in the shire.
I was confused about that as well. I though the modding community would get quite large after the redkit was released, but nothing really came out of it so far :S
Middle Earth Enterprises isn't the same as Tolkien Enterprises. MEE is the people who bought the rights off Tolkien for the films and other stuff, and TE is the tolkien family with the exclusive rights to the silmarillion and other newer books.
Check your oblivion ini for anything out of the ordinary, or just delete it and recreate it when you launch the game :)
Not exactly. You own a license for use of the software on the computer. WB owns a license for the sole rights of making and distributing LOTR games.
Chibi Easterling. Nice xD
WB didn't make the movies, they made the Hobbit but not LOTR. They have the rights to making games from the movies and the four main books from SZ who bought the rights from Tolkien
The old page got beat pretty quickly :P That's on 900k+
This point actually came up before a few times. Check out this thread if you like Merp.straygenius.com
- edit - just noticed it is in the archives, but if you have an account, you can add yourself to the archive group to view it.
Yeah, as Anglachel said, me and Valyndimir wrote up letters and sent them to New Zealand last year but we have no reply :(
I haven't died just yet ;)
Cmon man, i don't think MODDB tolerates use of bad language :D
Yeah, that's how i see it.
As previously said, WB takes longer than the Ents ;) Don't be hasty :D
We have various pieces of information from WB but nothing that we can or is worth sharing for a number of reasons. Just back and forth about what MERP actually is etc... We will make a post when we get something solid back from them :)
When we get something worth updating :D I guess the most i can say is that it's passing around various companies at the moment. Waiting for replies seems to be the key delay.
Well the whole Hobbit thing has drawn attention to MERP, yes. However given it's position, i don't think that has helped it. Maybe if MERP had been released before the hobbit, but the extra attention because of the films has caused the legal team to be on the lookout of things like this and since MERP is one of the largest, then it will stick out to them quite a lot. The best thing to MERP would to be quiet until release, and then it wouldnt have attracted unnecessary attention from WB :S
Yup, It just takes a while to get responses from WB that's all. So it takes a long time to get anything newsworthy.
12 Giraffes died.
Well done for getting into the top 100 guys :)
it can't become void until they lose the lawsuit unfortunately
Sorry about that. A lot of it is just waiting around between messages sent to our lawyer and WB and then to our lawyer and back to us.
That's right :)
Slightly off topic here, but if anyone is interested, three MERP team members are meeting up to to a sponsored walk to help fundraise a volunteer trip to the Amazon rainforest :)
Please check it out!
You guys may have heard of/follow Elric on motherboards.org/techoftomorrow. unforturnately a company he signed a contract with has committed acts of fraud and fired him from his own buisness when he called them on it!
Here is all the info!
Please do what you can to help!
in case nobody noticed
At least by the end of all this, we will know for certain if it will definitely be allowed and completed or not. we would have never known otherwise. It's just been floating in the background with this possibility for years, and it's only worth fighting back if you have a reason to! One of those is the huge fan support!
Just to let everyone know, we are back into talks with Warner Bros. More information will come in the future :)
