If you install it on Windows, Steam prompts you and then downloads the SDK automatically.
But nobody plays this anyway.

Trying to make a similar mod for the Source engine called Darkness: Source. Here's a link to the moddb page: Moddb.com
Forgot to add: I have a mapping guide up at the main site: Darkness.dnbrown.net
Yea, sure I can make a mapping guide--It would be awesome to have some maps from Gloom... My personal favorite is gloom4/deadstar, but I don't have a good memory of the map layout.
I just made a forum here on moddb so you can post feedback/ideas here if you want. You can also find me in the Steam group for Darkness, there's only 2 people in it right now, but we could at least schedule map testing time or something.
They're a little silly sometimes, but not actually over-priced. Have you seen the new Mac Pro's? You can't buy flash storage like that very cheap, the thunderbolt bus/ports are amazing, and the video card is fairly expensive itself... If only I had 8k for a computer.
The moddb mirror might be malfunctioning, but the main site, Darkness.dnbrown.net has the same TGZ with instructions too.
About the Mac build: It runs on my system, but the crosshairs are funky and it won't let me connect to the server. I'm not sure if it's because I use a non-standard case-sensitive filesystem, but if you're able to connect and play normally, please let me know.
I think we have someone who can help with textures now.. maybe we can make space crates :)
Yes...
Here's what I need the most:
- Spider player models
- Weapon models for humans
- New Textures
- New Maps (considering porting old Gloom maps)
It's hard to take the Half-Life out of Half-Life ;)
Why does it look so different from the stock half-life 2 maps?
On the Steam page for Source SDK there was an announcement about it about a month ago. All you have to to is pull in the new SDK changes and recompile.
I haven't made an IRC channel yet, but I made a Steam Group. We could start an IRC channel on freenode.net or something...
Hatchling's grapple has a bug in the beta--1.6 will fix it. We just had a baby so this is the first time I've logged on in a few weeks :)
Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world, I feel like I can't take it, and my heart is just going to cave in.
Are you planning to update to the 2013 SDK?
I want to do Steam Greenlight, maybe when the beta is done and 1.6 is ready I can start that...
From the little I've seen of NS2, Darkness is very different:
- free
- fast paced
- all classes are important, even in long-running games
- bases can/should be moved around
- hatchy/kami has a grappling movement that's really fun and useful
- team damage plays a more important role
- the classes are different
Both games are based on Gloom but Darkness is much more similar to the original game than NS2. They both fill a void in the age of highly symmetrical games like TF-2 and CS-GO.
Also, I'm the only dev, so I've probably been doing a horrible job at marketing my mod so far :)
Do you think some kind of toxic excrement would work after digestion is done?
After I release 1.6, I'll start looking at some anti-trolling measures.
To answer your questions: Currently, all weapons are given at spawn and can't be dropped. The Engy Destroy Gun is the least dangerous of all team-damaging weapons: Grenades, RPG rounds, and C4 are far more devastating in the wrong hands.
tech4.5 looks nice actually--It's hard to find people who know how to use the Doom 3 toolchain though--Otherwise, I think i'd just port Darkness since the Doom 3 BFG engine is so much cleaner...
I haven't tried Rage yet--but working with mega-textures would be fun. I'd definitely need a few artists to support that kind of effort.
Nobody know about it yet, it's only been out for a few weeks... Also my videos/images suck compared to most other mods :)
Yea it's weird how the comment got replaced like that..
posted some gameplay footage of me losing to a hachtling during testing...
not enough people played yet to get footage...
Interesting enough to help me beta test?
