I'm actually not entirely sure when a demo will be ready, so I don't want to make any promises just yet. Every time I finish something I realize there are two more things I have to do. I'll be sure to post about it when I do manage it though. Thanks for the interest!

Hi,

Thanks for the tips! I'll be sure to take another swing at it once I'm done with this game! I'd love to be able to make quality pixel art.

Hi all,

I have a previous track record of success with a free game I made years ago (hosted HERE!):
Indiedb.com

Feel free to give it a try, and if you like it, upvote my current game:
Steamcommunity.com

It's a spiritual sequel which I consider to be far better than Kickboxing Manager ever was. Thanks for your time!

Did you mean for Kickboxing Manager, or World Boxing Manager?

Hey all,

I know it's been several years, and I'm sure you're wondering what's been going on. I simply haven't had time to work on this due first to university, then working at a startup for a few years.

However, I've now started a 9-5 job, and I've resumed game development as a hobby. Naturally, the first thing I've decided to do is to revamp and remake Kickboxing Manager into a pure boxing simulator! Check it out on Greenlight:

Please feel free to upvote it if you're still interested in this game!

Hi!

Sorry for the VERY late reply. I just haven't been able to focus on it due to doing a work internship for the past 8 months. I'm hoping now that I'm back in school I'll be able to do a bit more work on it, but it depends on my workload. I'm thinking of doing some slight combat engine updates first to regain my bearings with the game, but we'll see ;) Thanks so much for the support.

As for your question, the whole point of the game is to improve your standing as a manager. Your fighters will be terrible at first, but as you win matches and upgrade your equipment, then your training will be more effective. Try starting off in the lower leagues. You'll lose most of your matches, but the money you get from losing can be saved up and used to upgrade your equipment.

Hi!

Sorry for the VERY late reply. No, I don't plan to make it open
source, not just because the code is probably lousy ;) but also
because it's my pet project, so I was HOPING to iterate it myself
every now and then. I just haven't been able to focus on it due to
doing a work internship for the past 8 months. I'm hoping now that I'm
back in school I'll be able to do a bit more work on it, but it

Good call. If there are enough changes needed to warrant a Version 1.4 I'll add tooltips to the training buttons, like the ones that appear when you hover over the buttons at the top. Thanks for the input!

Yes, not resting definitely hurts, haha. Try resting once every six days or so for best results.

Say, you know, I think I just realized why everyone finds training fighters so hard!

It's because people instinctively try to level up every stat evenly. However, the point is that you pretty much CAN'T at the beginning of the game - with such lousy equipment to start with, this forces you to adopt a style for your gym. This was a conscious design decision, to emphasize the gym style and fighter styles.

So this means to succeed at the earlier stages of the game, you may need to sacrifice some stats in order to improve your core stats. Being well-rounded begins to matter more as you ascend the rankings into higher tier organizations. I hope this helps!

Don't apologize - I'm just glad you're enjoying the game in spite of your grievances =)

Your manager and gym reputation (as well as the fighter reputation) all increase after a win. Your manager's reputation gain is unaffected if it is a KO win, but your gym and fighter reputations gain a slight bonus for a KO. Your manager's reputation gain only gets a bonus if it is a title/tournament win.

A loss will reduce both gym and fighter reputation, but NOT the manager reputation. The amount lost is less than the amount gained for a win, so even if your win/loss ratio remains around .500, then you should slowly but surely increase your rep.

When your manager's reputation increases, you'll know it, since you will get a Level Up screen after the event. This will allow you to allocate more points to your manager's stats.

Gym and fighter rep improvements are unannounced - you'll just have to check every now and then. The fighter reputation affects which organizations he is able to sign into.

Let me know if you have any other issues, and thanks for playing!

About the training, you're right - when it says Jab +5, then it is increasing the amount of points to the next level of Jab. Eventually you will see it say Jab Level Up! This means that the stat has increased by 1 or 2 points.

The amount of sub-stat gained is a combination of your manager's skill, the equipment level, the fighter's fatigue and the fighter's own learning speed. The biggest factors by far are the equipment level and the manager skill, since this is what the user has direct control over.

The sub-stat decrease amount is only affected by the equipment stat. Increasing the equipment levels will reduce the amount being decreased when you train. The reason it is so harsh at the beginning is that the game allows you to have up to 10 fighters. In other words, the game scales exponentially in terms of fighter income, so I tried to keep that in mind.

That being said, I do seem to notice that people are having a hard time improving fighters. I will be releasing a Version 1.3 soon which will reduce both the daily training costs and the cost to get to the next level of equipment, among other changes. So stay tuned! =)

For now though, just a tip - your manager's reputation level and your gym reputation level together affect the quality of new students. So once you level up either of them by a few levels, try retiring some of your existing fighters and getting newer, better students.

Thanks for playing, and do let me know if you have any other issues!

Thanks for playing it! I'm very glad you like it!

As for the music, that might be a good idea for a future version =).. but I'm a bit swamped at the moment, so it would have to wait. Plus, one of my friends suggested an import/export fighter feature which I will be attempting to implement soon. Stay tuned!

There is no "best" training plan. What are your manager's stats? The manager Training stats have a big effect on the effectiveness of training plans. For the Heavy Bag, you will want to add more points to your Training - Offense - Punch stat.

I'm not sure, game dev is something I do in my spare time so I'll have to see if I have time for an MMA game. At the moment I'm still trying to get some feedback for this game though, so feel free to give it a play and let me know of any concerns. Thanks for the interest!
