Yes, it's compatible with Warband 1.6 (which was mostly just for the Steam Workshop). I've tried downloading patch 1.41 just now with no problems. Could be server hiccups. Try again.

Make sure you have Warband version 1.157/1.158.
Then install Brytenwalda 1.4 and then the patch 1.41.

Some lords/kings have background stories, like King Penda /if you talk to him). It's all historical. We have quite a bit of information from this time actually, though mostly from Bede (a historian). We know too little about their appearances to imitate that.

You should unzip the rar. file and run the installer. Very importantly set the destination path to "modules" in the Warband root directory.
If you can't unzip the file I suggest using 7zip (it's open source free software) 7-zip.org

That can't be true. The native game is capped at a battle size of 150. You can however use the Battle Size Changer:
Mbrepository.com
Just run the installer. It allows you to set battle size up to 1000 (but watch out for performance issues, Brytenwalda already requires more resources than the native game).

When you talk to tavernkeepers there should be an option to ask for work/quests. He'll then ask you to hunt down a bandit in a village somewhere. Once killed go back to the tavern and collect the reward. It can be useful early in the game to get easy cash.

Yes. But you need a few relationship points with the faction. So do a quest or two for the faction/lord and the option will appear in the dialogue with a lord.

Not dead. Fully grown and living on its own.
We consider the mod finished, so expect no new versions, unless new Warband versions require a compatibility patch.

The sounds are in the Brytenwalda sounds folder. They're called "bells" and "wolf_short". You can replace them with silent sound files, either wav. or mp3. Maybe you can just delete them, but I don't know if you'll then get an error message.

Hmm. Can you elaborate? Maybe you don't have enough troops, or there's no strife/war between you and the castle/town.

It can be done with the scripts which requires knowledge of Python coding. You can also try using TweakMB to reduce the size of AI parties. To quote:
AI Lord Parties (under Parties submenu)
- Base party size
- Party size gained per point of leadership
- Renown needed to increase party size
- Bonus party size for faction leaders, faction marshalls, and - number of castles owned
- Level modifier for party size
- Modifier for overall party size"

Gore means decapitation (sometimes the head of an enemy will 'explode' in a fountain of blood). There's no option to turn off morale loss at sea. Sorry.

I doubt that's a bug. Is it not like that in native? Do you have maximum number of troop types or something?

Yes. Many of the features in Brytenwalda can be turned off. Go to camp > mod options > 'click to disable fatigue/stamina system'. Notice many other options like gore/beheading, weapons breaking, armour penalty etc.

If downloaded correctly all the textures are there.
It's very important when you get to 'Select Destination Location' to navigate to the 'modules' folder where Warband is installed.

Not random, but I'm not sure exactly how it works. But yes, several factions will wage war on you. Best to gather all troops in one location while building up enough troops to expand. Remember companions can be sent to faction leaders as diplomats to broker alliances/truce.

1. That's how the native combat works. That hasn't been changed. (Dead bodies don't 'soak' up hits, so you can attack through a dead person even before he has hit the ground.)
2. I don't think the strategic AI has been changed. They can certainly act stupid.
3. The sizes of the armies are to give a challenge. Enemy lords are supposed to be very strong and not attacked without allies or once a large party has been acquire.
