Hey up cheers for the add, nice stuff you have here ;)
hey samGwise, thanks for the add!
Um..nope..never even studied music theory. Can't even read a simple piece of sheet music. I play by ear, and FL was the easiest program for me to use. Don't get me wrong I know what melody, pitch, tempo, rhythm and all that stuff means, I just never took any lessons. I even play piano, but only because I taught myself how to play for 8 years. (FL-studio 4 years, the tutorials never really did help, and I perfer finding things out through experience).
So yup..I somehow managed to get myself into music lol.
"FL-studio 4 years, the tutorials never really did help, and I perfer finding things out through experience"
well thats one thing we certainly have in common I don't think I've even looked at the tutorials for reason.
I can't say that it's unusual to learn to write music by ear.
I just believe that music theorie helps later on, when you try and experiment more, like writing a piece in multiple keys at the same time (as in a C major bass line with G major Melodie for instance is very straight forward, as it follows the cycle of fifths) but you can get allot more complicated than that.
Still though it certainly is important to have a good ear.
It certainly helps as well when experimenting, having a good knowledge of theorie can just help to direct and guide you. Saving you from waisting time on simpler tasks and melodic variations.
If any of that doesn't make sense I apologize as it is 1 AM right now and I'm in much need of some shuteye.
