In case you're curious, I've been talking to the moddb.com staff about running the article I've written as a feature. So far, they're refusing, claiming that they are concerned the article will "misinform" ppl.
This despite the fact that a successful copyright attorney of 17 years experience has signed-off on the article as being accurate.
Go figure.
wow i just saw that now lol
piiiikkaaaaaaCHHHUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!

Thnx for taking the time to read the article. A lot of work went into it. It's not easy to get lawyers to talk to you for free, lol! I was very lucky enough to have "met" Ms. Cowin.
"I think that if a company releases an engine with an editor, it is ok to use what comes with that editor."
Yes, I think that's implicit in the TOS. No sense in reinventing the wheel.
Re: copyright infringement, I personally think that that fair use laws don't allow for enough leeway, I generally think that even (what is currently deemed) infringing mods should be allowed to exist for non-commercial uses if not actively prosecuted by the IP holder. Of course, not being a congressman/judge it doesn't matter what I think...
What angers me to no end though is that copyright infringing mods are being REWARDED for their theft with cash, prizes, and advertising vis a vis MOTY.
Moddb is such a bizarre community. Over at the GA Dominance War III, stealing someone else's copyrights isn't even a question. Ppl there take pride in artistic creation. Go figure.
Anyways, sry to monopolize the post space here folks. I've written an open letter to the moddb.com staff urging them to feature the article I've written. I don't think they'll be too keen as it makes obvious their legal obligations...
