I despise it as a modding platform. It has some serious inadequacies.
I quantified that in my later post, describing the differences between the existing UT2004 and HL2;

Basically, at the end of the day, Source is difficult to work with, especially in terms of code. Source also isn't very versatile. If you want to make a first person shooter, then great! If you want large open environments, vehicles or anything like that, then it's going to be a nightmare. Source is only good for making HL2-like games.
The reason why I hate it as a modding platform the most, is that's it's so often touted as the 'uber-mod platform of choice' for anything you can possibly imagine, and being easy to work with - which it isn't, and never has been, yet people will still rant and rave that it is.
The fact that Wraiyth is happy to sit there, and simply say 'Don't go Source', when he's an experienced Source programmer and has spent a lot of time working with HL2 speaks volumes about that.
