___Brief Description___

Hero of Allacrost is a single player 2D role-playing game inspired by classic console RPGs. In Hero of Allacrost, the player will explore rich environments, solve challenging dungeon puzzles, and fight strategic battles in an active-time based system. The game is free open-source software and is currently available across several platforms including Windows, OS X, Linux, and FreeBSD. In addition to the game, we also develop and release a map editor with the game. Development on the game and editor began in June 2004 and is written in C++ and Lua. We've been around a while and have released several demos in the past, and are currently wrapping up the first release module of the full game.

Because this project is distributed for free, no one on the team takes or expects they will take any form of financial compensation. This is a labor of love for us all, and a rewarding means for us to improve our individual skills.

___Positions___

Map Designer
The person in this role will be primarily focused on the design and development of our maps. This includes using our editor to lay down tiles and build up the maps, adding in sprites and other objects, scripting those sprites as well as other events that happen on the map, and play testing. The map scripting will require you to write some code in Lua, but its pretty straightforward to do and we provide all the tools and APIs you need, so by no means do we need this person to be an experienced developer.

C++/Lua Developer
Most of the code that is required for our next release has been completed, but there's still a lot of work to be done in development. You could be doing anything from helping us migrate our game to newer libraries such as SDL2, fine tuning our custom game engine, or adding new gameplay features. You're given a lot of freedom to work on what interests you in our project and aren't confined to any one area of the code. But starting out you'll be asked to help with changes that are needed regarding our map code to support some changes that we are working on at the moment.

Pixel Artist
The artwork requirements for our next release are about 80% complete. We just need a few more items of artwork across the spectrum, including map tiles, sprites, enemy designs, character portraits, and battle backgrounds. We're well on our way to having a release come out in the next few months, so this is a great chance for you to get your artwork into a working game without fear of the project drying up and your hard work going to waste.
