That was the best Rave ever, with those flashlights and all...

On a more serious note. I was wondering, if the Lasgun is partly effective against Tyranids and not at all effective against armored targets like the Chaos Marines in this case, why don't they create a weapon that's similar to a Bolter, only in a smaller size so it can be used by a guardsman, basically like today's weapons? I mean, they DO have the technology...

Is it either something the writers never thought about, or do they simply want the Guards to be useless and die by the millions in every major battle?

Bolters and today's modern firearms are way different if you compared them to normal standard gear. A bolter is pretty much a automatic rocket launcher as you probably already know and normal humans probably couldnt handle the recoil if equipped and I do not know how you would make such a thing even smaller when a bolter is to be considered itself a heavy weapon for a guardsmen but small to a space marine. If your talking about if they have weapons similar to like automatic ballistic rifles or sniper rifles(AK47,M4A1) in our days, I believe they have those in various forms but their are various reasons the lasgun is more prominent when considered to be standard gear. The Guard do still have weapons that would be given to space marines and heavy weapons such as the Lasgun, autogun, plasma weapons, and even heavy bolters but these are typically assigned to heavy weapons teams, veterans or specialized units. The closest and best weapon the guards could use that would replace the lasgun would be the Tau's plasma rifles however the imperium be all tech heresy and ****.

In regards to the writers idea about the guard, yea most likely the idea about the guard is literally Soviet Union during WW2 pumped to incredibly degrees of incompentent in command with a few brave competent souls in the mix in both lower and higher tiers of command whose main job is to hold the line or to fix bayonets and charge into the automatic gun fire backed up by shitloads of tanks. Also factor in that everything compared to a normal human being with even heavy weapons in Warhammer 40k is on high amounts of drugs, madness, and FK THE COMMON SENSE.

Pretty much hardcore respect the guard because they are the ones taking the **** at every corner of the galaxy and are riducously normal compared to every single fker in the galaxy equipped with goddamn flashlight.
