A second really. They only really needed that one super round that detonated the entire planet but I guess they like to vent their frustration first, eh?
First bombardment is to prevent any retaliate fire from the planet surface, second strike is Exterminatus.

I don't know, even though it does make a lot of sense the planet they had to Exterminatus was *spoiler spoiler* Typhon Primaris. I don't think they really needed to worry about any planetary retaliation from a feral world, that planet wasn't especially developed from the way it was described and represented.
