I find it interesting that the original DoW is closer to the "true" game experience fo tabletop - heaps of people whinged "hur dur you can't have a whole terminator army NERF NAO!" (replace terminator for your preferred uber-unit), such armies became impossible in Winter Assault to mirror the tabletop restrictions, and then GW comes out with Apocaplypse, Planetstrike etc. which are all about changing the restrictions or tossing them out alltogether to focus on other areas of the game.
Also, Dawn of War lets you actually break and regain morale kind of like a morale check, instead of "whoops, morale broke, everybody just got so badly nerfed they can't now fight their way out of a paper bag". It was much better when they got a speed boost when out of range of enemies... and it made the SM Sargeant's ability really useful and characterful.
I don't 'dislike' the later games, but the original is definitely the better one IMO
A new version would need:
-DOW's base-building, unit variety, army painter and modibility
-DOW2's graphics, cover system, object destruction, and weapon AOE
-ALL RACES IN ONE GAME
Hey guys i had an idea for a warhammer mmo
basically you start off as one of the races but as the lowest rank and you have to choose your chapter, your play style and wargear and you are assighned to a squad and slowly work your way up the ladder until you are commanding full armies.
One of the best games of all time. Only needs model, mechanic and texture enhancements to compete with recent releases.
It's amazing what modders have done with this game too. Even today modders are still introducing new and epic content.
Warhound! I have had Warhound battles in this game thanks to mods! Part of my life is now complete.
i am still playing this ever since it came out a true gem of a game.
