Maybe the whole Reaganomics thing? People tend to say that the policy decayed the U.S' economy after the initial benefits.
He had severe tertiary syphilus or something along those lines... in fact, he was taking more steroids than the average pro-wrestler to keep himself going by the end of his time as President. Nurgle's blessings must have given his political career Feel No Pain as well - how else do you explain him overcoming the massively negative press from some of his administration's biggest decisions?
