Like some of you asked, here is my Blood Angels Devastator build. Some of the pictures are way older then the rest. But it is to make a impression. Stuff still looks wonky and a bit odd to times. But you get the idea

what are you making the framework out of? foam of some sort?
The framework is mostly aluminium strips and in some parts foam. If it needs support, just foam, if it needs to hold a certain form, then i use strips. Like the legs, in the middle there is a strip of aliminium inside. But at the end of the leg there is a extra layer of foam. You can see here the right leg (my left leg) is a bit thicker on the inside then the right (both are done now but in the picture it was a test

You should definitely keep the checkered underarmor. It adds some nice detail.
Can you post a how-to guide when your done?
