Membership Prerequisites: Professional Talent --> By this, I mean decent and exemplary voice acting skills (variety of accents, tones and inflection)... Professional Equipment--> You do not need a studio (decent recording dynamics are preferred) but it is ESSENTIAL that you own a professional standard microphone and appropriate recording/editing software... Professional Attitude--> This is the most important pre-requisite. You must have the ability to stick to deadlines, communicate in a professional matter and attend to any issue in responsible fashion... That pretty much summarises our ethos: Amateurs with professional standards. If this is you, send me an email with your show reel and a list of your experience! Forget politics as well... This is membership only. Membership proves indicative of a voice actor’s talent.
The VAU is a new and unique joint initiative of ModDB and those aspiring in the entertainment industry; and specifically voice acting. The Union was founded by Rowan 'Baza' Chapman in late 2006 in response to the lack of appreciation that voice actors receive along with the blatant short falls that are beginning to permeate the modding scene.

Developers may plausibly argue that there are virtually no decent voice actors up for hire. It is true, that is a fact. Decent voice actors with proper equipment come few and far between. By the same token, voice actors have considerable trouble collecting high-calibre show-reel material for future work as well as developers/teams that can actually facilitate this standard of work.
There is a desperate need for some form of synergism between developers and talent. Only then, can the inception of true professionalism take place. VAU is the answer to this problem. By creating a contact-base for both developers and quality voice acting talent, we can assure that games and high quality modifications have a go-to area for development needs.
Not to mention, we have created a very effective job forum for voice actors. Forget politics as well... This is membership only. Membership proves indicative of a voice actor’s talent. If the member experiences inappropriate treatment at the hands of a development team without due cause (and this happens ALOT)... you can forget receiving any future help from VAU people. And I assure you; the voice actor has to hold up their end of the bargain as well! Check out the group page for the criterion for VAU membership status.
