I think a draft is BS all together.

We don't do the draft anymore and part of the reason why is a army of people who joined up because they actually believe in why we are there is far superior to demoralized draftees who are forced in without much choice.

The U.S. Military aims to be a motivated high tech fighting force.
Just like in Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein, the book.

Is part of where they got this idea of no draftees, only volunteers.
It's the only scifi military book you'll find in U.S. military academies.

I'm happy I had the privilege of listening to it. :-)

i agree with the draft to a point. if it is a war of survival like ww2 for example then yes a draft is needed, every man and women who is old enough should be called up to fight or to serve the army in any way they can. in times like these i feel a draft is not really needed more or less its kind of just there for no real reason. were not at war with any super power that is threatening our way of life. now as far as women are concerned do i think they should be allowed to fight sure why not if they can do it they can do it if they cant then they cant, not every male can fight. but female soldiers have proved very useful in countries like Russia and Israel so why not here, our women are strong and independent and can be amazing fighters given the chance. My aunt is in the air force reserves and was in the army before that.

Sorry for not responding or anything for 6 days, but I didn't want to leave it completely unfinished. Here are my thoughts:

Unfortunately, given the current world situation I think we may be coming to a war, and possibly may need to use the draft. Our military has been gutted by our President.
Allowing women in all combat roles, however, will not make that better.
ON AVERAGE, women do not perform as well as men physically. ON AVERAGE, women are usually weaker. While there are certainly plenty of women serving their country in this fashion and see combat, they are not (or at least used to not be) put in the same roles as men from the start.

Statistically, women in combat have not performed as well as men. Statistically, mixed-gender units haven't performed as well as all-male units.

I think that if we *really* need to be sending out our women, men's daughter's, brother's sister's, men's wives, we should at LEAST put them in positions that fit them, instead of treating them all the same and drafting them into frontlines combat roles. We'll be conquered before we got our first batch of draftees through training.

I don't remember where I first found this quote, but I feel it's very good. "From wives, you took their husbands, from fathers and mothers their sons, from daughters their brothers. Keep your hands off our daughters."

Bad enough that we'd be sending anybody to war against their will, but draw the line somewhere.
