Description
Soviet light swimming tank Pt-76 (Object 740). Designing commenced in 1949. First prototype was tested in 1950. Totally nearly 12 000 tanks were created. Weight - 14 tons, crew - 3 members, Speed - 44 km/h. Weaponry: 76-mm D-56T main cannon (40 shells), 1 × 7,62-mm SGMT
Telescopic scope TShK-66.
Currently only russian Pt-76, chinese T-60 and swedish IKV-91 are able to overcome water obstacles immediately, without any special preparations.
Should specify that those vehicles listed are tanks as there are several other types of vehicles out there with that capability.
Like the BMDs for example requires just about the same prep as the PT76.
That's why swimming tanks are no more popular.

No. Practice of usage showed that they are not needed. Their tasks can be easily performed by other light vehicles. Moreover - history showed that destroyed bridges are also not a problem for none swimming tanks, it is question, maximum of 6 hours.
Also not to mention due to their nature, their armor doesnt tend to be with friend sometimes.
In other words they have very thin armor in order to swim making very vulnerable to even weak anti armor weapons.
LoL you can kill the crew with Desert Eagle.
Such are swimming tanks, and light tanks as well. If their armor will be thicker they will no more perform their direct purposes. And as I said there is nothing so special which standard tanks can't do.
They are for flanking around the the rear of the enemy base and wreaking havoc.
