Actually they still liked this variant even when the T-44 existed and they did enlarged the turret before but the gun is still too powerful but the development continued anyway so they replaced the gun with the 100mm LB-1 and it became favorable but the T-54 was already introduced.

The German Tiger had an 88MM gun and was unable to move at full speed while firing because it would damage the turret. T-34s are smaller and a 100MM gun is too much for its turret to handle.

An experimental T-34 fitted with a 100mm gun.
I've read some comments that said the reason why they didn't adopt this gun was because it would damage the turret ring and the top of the turret, I don't know the real reason, however that seemed like a possible theory.
