Lets say Russia manufactures this tank what will the top NATO members do? develop new tanks or keep the ones they have now while adapting with new ATGMs and ammo types?
Let's say? Russia already has 32 tanks in testing. They also have halted the ordering of new T-90's in favor of the "Armata"-chassis.
Next big thing in western tanks will be stepping up from 120mm cannon into 140mm ones. So practically, resume from where they left it in the early 90's...
Interesting, so i guess those rumors about the T-14 showing up in Victory day parades are not that far fetched? i have not kept up with tank development and news in months.
The US Army is supposedly working on the M1A3. Many are guessing it will have an autoloader to give it a higher fire rate.
Hypersonic 120mm sabots already exist aka APFSDS. So unless it has some of kind anti shell laser Armata doesn't have much of an advantage over an Abrams or Leopard. Unless they give it a railgun or something.
So its still a matter of who sees who first when it comes to tank combat. The ability to control UAVs and UGVs would the real gamer charger here.
Any UGV main battle tanks in the works yet? Been wondering when those would pop up.
As cool as that is. Tanks are still too complex for that.
The BEA Black Knight is the closest I can find info about. But that is more of an IFV.
The Abrams' main disadvantage is it's...superiority. The thing is that Abrams is actually good, but it has reached it's upgrade top. US Army need completely new tank, If Russia, or Europe, or even China start manufacturing tanks that completely overwhelm Abrams by at least a couple of parameters US will be in trouble. Not because they have better tanks, but because they don't even have a developed project superior to Abrams.
Also, about advantages. Armata's higher ammo load and crew survivability(compared to T-72s and T-90s) due to fully remote-controlled turret and special crew capsule respectively. Also still having smaller size than Abrams.
The Armata can be armed with the 2A83 152mm experimental gun, so I wouldn't cross my fingers with the 140mm.
Rheinmetall already has designs for a 140mm Cannon, so I don't think they are going to design a new cannon when they already have a big enough designed already.
Russia has already design the 2a83 152mm gun, it has been tested long ago, but they need a heavy tank to use it !
The Armata is prob. the best test bed.
I know. From Object 477"Molot"/195(T-95)
And I was talking about WESTERN tank guns.
This is what I call a TANK. And it's not fully upgraded with the advance composite modular armor, ERA and ARENA-M !!!
The tank as "is" weight 55 tonnes, with all the armor upgrades will weight ~60-62.5 tonnes.
