This group is for everyone who like tanks, sci-fi tanks, real tanks, funny tanks, you can put here tank mods, tank maps, simply everything with straps, armor and gun :D
DESIGNATION: M808 Main Battle Tank
MANUFACTURER: Acheron Security
CREW CAPACITY: 1 operator + 1 gunner + 4 passengers
PRIMARY ARMAMENT: Primary Cannon [M512 SBHVC]
SECONDARY ARMAMENT: Machine Gun [M247 MMG]
The M808 Scorpion is easily the UNSC’s most prominent main battle tank, offering impressive firepower and effective anti-infantry suppression as well as substantial resiliency and maneuverability in the field. The Scorpion is usually deployed during asymmetric ground assaults, within escort convoys, or in any circumstance that requires heavy and mobile armor.
Though I like the Scorpion alot, it wouldn't stand a chance against modern main battle tanks, the Scorpion is pretty much a tracked air portable Stryker MGS.
Agreed, since it carries a puny 90mm cannon (got the info from the megablocks set, which I didn't like their spin on it so I built a mammoth tank out of the parts instead)
It would have been a great light tank though.
the thing is..
-I highly doubt the enemies this tank was designed to face would have tanks of their own..
-so you don't need a big *** gun that needs big shells and a big stowage space..
- plus even though the gun is only 90mm there is a 105mm variant and the rate of fire would easily put most modern day tanks to shame..
-also remember Halo is set in the future.. the technology and materials would be even more advanced than the tanks of nowadays
-ven more it was designed to be portable.. no use in having a tank that can't get be supplied easily or transported easily while on campaign
I'll merely stating some facts I read online and facts that are present in the game
There are a few design problems with the Scorpion.
The crew protection is atrociously terrible, with the cockpit being vulnerable to a direct hit.
The turret certainly would stop working if it got hit, as you can see there are several exposed components and it looks too small to provide adequate protection.
The tank is stated to have 66 tons, yet the M1A2 is around the same tonnage yet is much faster and packs more weapons.
The only good design feature I see in the Scorpion is the separate tracks, in case one gets blown the others can still work.
Never mind Halo is set 500 years into the future and Laser tech had to be reversed engineered from the Covenant, the USNC still uses 20th calibers and small arms technology seems to have been stuck in the early 21th century.
In all fairness the Scorpion is much closer to a Striker MGS or a BMP-3 then a MBT like the M1A2 or the T-90.
But then there is the MST3K Mantra: It is just a work of fiction, and we shouldn't ruin it by over-thinking, just enjoy it.
I'd also compare the scorpion to the Sherman tank of WWII, excellent for infantry support, but terrible against actual tanks, which fortunately for the UNSC, the Wraith is even worse than the Scorpion, pretty much being a SPH rather than an MBT
according to an H4 article i read, the wraith is a plasma mortar. so yeah it's an artillery vehicle, which i find it odd when the covenant uses it as a direct fire anti armor unit.
and speaking of the scorpion, yes it's design is pretty impractical as a tank, although its ability to aim the cannon high and shoot at aircraft makes it quite a formidable AA unit against light aircraft like the banshee, although i highly doubt it would fair well against aircraft at near mach speeds (i doubt the damn thing would encounter such aircraft). It should be dubbed the "scorpion armored infantry support unit" instead of a tank since it lacks the kind of protection modern 21st century tanks already have. and it would be quite ironic to have a tank with that kind of design 500 years in the future since the tech would be sky high already. Although its bigger brother, the grizzly (which i have only seen in halo wars), does seem to be a great tank, albeit designed to be a heavy tank.
The reload mechanism in the back of the turret from Reach's Scorpion was awesome. And the new driver's hatch too.
I agree the hatch is just stupid like it was in Reach but in the previous titles it was ok because it hadn't windows nor it stayed out from the main hull.
Also, the tank is manned by two or maximum three marines because it has an autoloader and turret doesn't have crew ( this means that the best armor can be placed in the main body in order to protect the crew ).
Scorpion is just like a modern T-34, it's pretty fast, has decent armor, a decent gun, two HMGs, it is mass produced, really good autonomy and can be deployed by a pelican.
UNSC just dont need a better MBT versus Covenants who also have a mediocre tank (SPG actually) and are more concerned about numbers rather than quality.
I would say, i Halo universe this tank make really sense.
No offense to others but I really hate the Reachified version of this that had the misfortune to have the look even in the Anniversary edition of Halo 1 AND 4, Halo 3 variant was fine but Reach just ****** it up... -_- What ever happened to the Anti-Infantry cannon that used to be combined to fire along with the turret controls, I miss those days... TT
Maybe it's something called "game balance"...
It reminds me NOD Scorpion Tank with Stealth tank
I think the Nod scorpion tank (from C&C 3) has a bigger gun (105mm vs 90mm)...
Calm your tits guys.... It's only a game...
What an awful, awful vehicle this is. The guys at Spacebattles have extensive reasoning as to why this is inferior to anything above a WWII light tank. It doesn't even look that cool.
Still, some of the design features make sense in context.
