This group is for everyone who like tanks, sci-fi tanks, real tanks, funny tanks, you can put here tank mods, tank maps, simply everything with straps, armor and gun :D
What a ******* disaster. Saw a twitter post that said that this is due to the hull ammo racks exploding. A jack in the box like that makes it seem likely.
Yep, definitely that forward hull stowage. Although a few images back we can see a Leopard that has had the turret bustle cooked off. Either way, not pretty.
Konkurs and ***** presumably, that's what has been seen in the majority of the videos around Al-Bab lately.
The only other possibilities would be Kornet or TOW, but Kornet is a silver bullet in this conflict, not many of them are easily accessible now and most of the TOW stocks are believed to be destroyed or captured, particularly with Aleppo liberation.
Really? I wouldn't expect a Konkurs or ***** missile to be able to knock out a Leopard 2A4. Given the armor on a Leo 2 I would expect it to be flank shot, which is understandable given that a modern MBT isn't impervious to side shots.
On the other hand if it were a Kornet, thats perfectly understandable since Kornet missiles are very powerful and can knock out any modern MBT.
If there's one thing this conflict and the Ukraine Civil War has taught me; it's to not underestimate ex-USSR ATGMs. However, you raise an interesting point, what we're witnessing is where the rubber meets the road in terms of weapons and their advertising vs. reality.
Leopards 2s are good tanks, Leo2A4s should be great tanks, but I do believe what we're witnessing now is the cold hard reality of composite armor vs. anti-tank weaponry of the late 20th century. Times have changed, the Russians learnt that lesson bitterly in Chechnya, Israel (sort of learned, at least led to Trophy) in the Golan Heights.
What these situations demonstrate is that inert armor is quite possibly outdated. Active and reactive multi-layered protection is the way forward.

That's the hull stowage being blown sky high, either direct penetration through the front glacis (~600 RHAe KE according to some) or from the side, just above and behind the front drive wheel (still well armored by composites). That's essentially straight through the toughest part of the tank, aside from the turret face.
This aside, it's the same old story as seen in Chechnya 1, Saddam's Iraq, early Syria days, the list goes on. When you do not adequately support your armor with air support, fire support, and infantry support, and perhaps most importantly, do not support it with adequate situational awareness, it's going to get mauled and mauled bad.
Damn,Our Army Will never learn how to use Leopard 2s.Our M-60Ts are Equipped with Hardened Israeli ERA "Sabra".I think Leopard 2s needs more ERA & Hull Protection. But Active Missile Protection "Must" be Installed to Leo-2s
Seem to have a turret popping problem, that's three 2A4s now.
RIP to the crews.

What kind of AT missiles destroyed these Leopard 2's?
