Do you honestly believe things are still working and are going just fine?

Posted by Headhunter128 on Apr 25th, 2013

No, this is not a marriage proposal :P

I am here to offer a proposal for everyone still involved, and also previously involved with the RP. I represent a group of people who has been working on a complete rework of the RP and how it works. We have spent the last few months trying to complete it, and we are now close to finish. This process have involved many long debates, arguments and at times, very time consuming
work.

Our overall goal was to create a system that puts an end to various issues that we believe the RP has and still allow for a role-player to roleplay the way he wants, but within reason. How some roleplay is not supposed to ruin other people's roleplaying experience and this is just one of the many things we have tried to make room for.

A few months ago, there were ca. 15-16 people involved in the RP, now there is not even half of that. People have left for varies reasons, but one thing that ties into almost all of them, is the fact
that there have been a distinct lack of responsibility. Both towards others, and one self, and in this process ignorance of things like the rules and the part of the RP system that we know as the Game Master. Both of which, were never meant to hinder one's ability to roleplay, to stomp on anyone's opinions or preferred way of roleplaying, but to ensure that there was room for everyone.

This purpose has been forgotten among the multitude of attempts to empower one self, often at the costs of others. Now mind you, that this is not always a deliberate action, in fact I believe that most do not seek to make things difficult for others or stomp on them. Some merely want to create something, a device, a ship, a faction; which in itself as an intention, is something we should all want in the RP, something that should be good for the RP. But how one achieves that goal, often presents the issue, and as such, the intention and the desired result have a very negative impact on the RP as a whole; on the universe and the roleplayers that make up the community.

We could talk endlessly about, whom or what is to blame. We all have our own perspectives, all of which are a valid opinion, and I could continue to write about all the aspects of the RP. But FACT is, things are no longer functioning, you cannot ignore it. Now, we are not quite ready to present our work and this is not something we want to force on everyone. But we would like for you to consider what I have said, and if you are ready for things to change.

Due to my own opinions and because I know there a few who will strongly disagree, I feel you should know that there will be alterations to RP history, you can check new map HERE. As someone who have in the past argued long and hard about the problems that this cause, it is my personal opinion that due to the many disagreements on recent events, we cannot salvage things without going back in time a bit (To roughly the time that the 2nd Fel Empire was created), and then making a plausible lore to replace that time, and placing factions in a situation that provides a balance and stability that is needed for a new start.

We look forward to know whether you are interested or not.

I'm the main "Loremaster", and am trying to explain what has happened between the creation of the Fel Empire and the restart of the RP.

Most factions created after the fall of the Empire are non-existent. The Federation exists not because of personal bias, but because it adds the vital Republican faction back into Galactic affairs, along with the Jedi Order.

I firmly suggest all of us start off with new characters, though we obviously cannot stop any of you from not using your own, though they will have to adapt to the new skill system being created, which should stop the abuse of certain Force Powers and make duels fairer between players, and stop arguments that have arisen in the past.

The Lore will not be complete in its entirety anytime soon. However, I am currently writing up the "basic" version, listing the most important things. The Lore may never really be complete, as it adds 10 years to the RP, enough time for the Galaxy to rebuild after the numerous Wars. Note that just because ten years have passed does not mean the factions are in anyway ready for all out open warfare. This it to prevent rushes that have plagued us in the past, and draw out this particular "chapter" of the RP longer than others (in which wars were won in a few weeks some of the time >.<).

I think instead of going back in time (which would cause a huge amount of confusion and some people would take issue with it, myself included, as some of us have achieved things outside of creating a faction that we wish to hold on to, and there are some good events that should be part of the history, in my opinion), I think you should forward it ten years later (maybe have everyone wrap up their events as sort of a forewarning, and then officially declare it) where the new factions basically collapse, uprisings occur in the now neutral factions, etc., creating the galaxy we have now.

That's my two cents, but being two cents, it probably isn't worth that much.

xD

Lol, that's what I did xD.

The Empire declines, new factions rise up, then ten years later we start the RP.

However, the new factions don't collapse. They're not in good shape, and may collapse if they suffer too many defeats, but they'll probably stay for a rather long duration. Probably... xD.

Sorry, but I won't start off with a newly completed character. If anything, I'm keeping Alena as my new main character, I've been putting a lot of time into developing her history, the way she is and how she acts. Sort of a best character I've ever made kind of deal, and I would hate for that to all go to waste because History was changed and she no longer exists or that she was killed in a big battle.

In any case, I will gladly reduce her Power back to basic starter levels with everybody else of course. I will change her history somewhat if need be.

Concerning Fenris, I'll think of something, retirement or some sort of death.

I'll have the same character as always. I'll tone my character down a few notches, wanted to re-balance his powers and redo his background anyway. I'll also be creating a few NPC/side characters. So I'm fine with everything as long as I can negotiate the renewal of the EU faction either now or at a later, more appropriate time, and keep Auricom as well, which will also be toned down quite a bit.

Well it seems my reign as GM is short lived xD dam! haha jk.

anyway. I only have one slight concern with this renewal of sorts. And that is what is this level system? I am not worried about force powers as i hate being only skilled with the force and so i usually can only use moderate force powers. However, if there is any other restrictions of sorts then id like to hear about them.

My character, if the Sith dont mind, Will be Jax Thraell, son of Ajax Thraell, who died in a speeder accident when Jax was younger. I have a whole story in mind of how Jax goes on to become a sith, known as Darth-Furere, but i will post that pic later on.

Anyway, i truly must thank you guys for all your work and cant wait to see some of you on the battlefield again. :)

Supposedly 'rare and expensive' tech that sees use about everywhere

Also, would you reconsider rebalancing characters in limiting their duel capabilities severely in favor of a mastermind tactician?

Already explained that I would be re-balancing my character. Ragnarok will most likely disappear, as not only does it tend to make everyone mad, but it will also conflict with how I want to RP my character from now on. I'll be keeping my claim on the design though, just in case if a war were to escalate to a point where factions start using superweapons and ships to turn the tide.

I don't believe in severly nerfing force users however.

battles that drag on for ages, Why do people complain about them?

Sometimes battles take time because they require special attention or they are important battles that could be decisive.

Whats the big deal if a battle takes time? If you want to take a sector, and you want it bad enough, you would take all the time it took to take that sector, wouldnt you?

I'm going to retcon Aaron following the conclusion of Zonama Sekot. Nym's going to be my character from then on out, aside from possible cameos or some such. I've already developed a backstory for him and might have to come to whoever's GM to get some of it approved, just to be on the safe side.

That being said, I'm all for this ten year fast-forward. Let's finish up what we've got (Zonama and the Journey event, for me) and do it as soon as we've worked out all the details.

Most battles wouldn't drag on so long if people didn't get involved in battles that they do in fact not have time for. Following the time rules would also do wonders to battle times.

The alternative is going back to the old system where Europeans are exploiting the Americans sleeping to wreak havoc. And the other way around. Most of the times leaving little chance for the opposing faction to respond. Even if by all fairness they should have had the chance.

I think we should more strictly enforce the 24 hour rule, and only stop doing so if an RPer specifically notifies us that he/she will not be present for a certain period of time, assuming that period of time is not so large (maybe a day, two is a stretch) that whatever event they are participating in stagnates.

You would assuredly be wiped out if your announced dead, quite mean, but that's how it goes. And severe illness, you should probably announce that your sick and ask to be allowed to be withdrawn from the duel/battle.

AK151 Apr 25 2013, 6:42pm replied:

Vacations and long leaves shouldn't be an exception, as those are often planned in advance. The only reason for it to be an exception would be if it were short (one, maybe two days) or if you were forced to unexpectedly leave for one reason or another.

I'm going out of town tomorrow and won't be back until Sunday. That's honestly pushing the bounds of an exception, and I'm hoping it doesn't cause too much trouble in the Zonama Sekot event, as I REALLY want to get that wrapped up (in case you haven't guessed xD).

Darth-Furere Apr 25 2013, 6:45pm replied:

oh yeah good point. but the main point here is that the 24 hr mark needs to be enforced, big time.

Also i would agree about rare and expensive tech. I mean the only thing i can think of is the CGT or what ever. it is cannon so i mean the only thing wrong with it is that it is very expensive and i think maybe a faction limit?

AK151 Apr 25 2013, 6:48pm replied:

I've only ever had one CGT, as that's usually more than enough. There should be a limit to them, maybe have a single ship in the Navy, such as a flagship, equipped with one, and maybe have them on the important worlds? Would that be enough?

Stealth might also fall under the category of "expensive".

hmm, idk if we should go that far. i mean i think that maybe we should have a balance. like if you spend alot of money researching armor for hulls, instead of stealth, then you cant have much stealth ships. And vice versa.

now thats just an example but i mean other then that i cant find anyway to stop stealth stuff because well its quite common and not really that expensive. i mean maybe if were talking of entire Stealth ISDs, thats a different story. lol

I would say that making the GCT rare and expensive but not Stealth, would fall under the catagory unfair. Not to mention making the stealth card an easy thing to abuse.

Not that I am saying GCTs should be common, just saying, neither should stealth.
