Kyle Katarn Update, New Objects, New Droid, Star Wars references.

Before we show you the latest developments on our modification, I would like to thank all of our friends and fans both for their interest in the project and continuous support of our efforts. As I mentioned before, the Dark Pastime is a collective work of many people in different aspects. Our project is not just about maps and wielding a lightsaber against evil Empire.

We've tried to keep you informed to certain extent via our project threads on jkhub.org, publishing minor news and previews there. We also received a lot of messages regarding the release and most surprisingly - about our new Kyle Katarn model. I guess, Olgo feels flattered, as this one was both
her work and initiative to add the original (Jason Court) appearance.

As of late we added a few new characters and new models to the story. On the forums I mentioned, that I started creating lots of new objects for different planets. This is done so that each place, city or forest would have their own unique atmosphere. Surely certain elements would remain the same everywhere, but only the essentials perhaps. Below are the examples of some of the objects that I added to the game. It's notable, that most of them have 3-4 variants to enhance diversity in design.

The same applies to characters. Currently we have over two hundred models in the mod, with each having several variations (skins), sometimes from three up to ten and even more. This makes it possible to add as many characters to the plot as we need. Surely some NPCs are seen throughout the game (with similar clothes and faces), but for the most part all have different appearance.
Below is the model of a mining or labor droid, with different classes of it. Having been created about thirty years before the rise of the Galactic Empire, these machines are used by yet unknown owner of an old factory on Ord Mantell. His motives on acquiring the abandoned building are unclear as well as on why he would attain so many obsolete units at once.

As you might know from our previous news the Empire plays a significant role in the mod. It differs from what we see in Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy though. The second mission of the game is fully Imperial and takes place in one of the major Imperial cities on the planet of Dvorn (the screenshots were published earlier).

It was not long time ago, that we decided to release DP in parts. The first chapter of adventures is almost ready and includes two planets, including the above mentioned Dvorn. I am not saying the exact date right now, as not to spoil all the plans of ours. But we do want to release Chapter I for you to try. Soon.

It was stated before, that the Dark Pastime makes a lot of references to other Star Wars stories. Among the already known things are the appearance of Dantooine and Jedi Enclave, Selkath species from KOTOR, Imperial Star Destroyers from Original Trilogy and many more. We wouldn't like to reveal all of them, but I made a minor article on this aspect (besides, much of Star Wars is labeled Legends now, so it might be only fair to make a nod towards them). If you have favourite Star Wars comics, book or video game, check this list in Features section right away - it might surprise you.

Next time: Starship models, New Adversaries, DP Chapter 1 Release Date.
