G'day Moddb Community! Today I have two items of interest for you, but first, I would like to say welcome back to everyone who had us on their "watch" list when we were the Star Trek: Homeworld 2 mod, we have as many watchers now as we did when we became Continuum! Thank you!
New Sovereign Model
Another of Aad Moerman's superb meshes is the replacement for the Sovereign place-holder that has served us for so long. Thank you again for allowing us to use so much of your work in our mod Aad!
Aad was also good enough to do an Enterprise E variant for the Sovereign, as well as an unregistered hull texture, so we will have the benefit of both in the mod!
Subspace Transceiver Satellites
In Release ALPHA people would have noticed that you couldn't warp to an enemy Outpost at the beginning of the match and lay waste in a zergling rush style burst of energy, there was a hyperspace inhibitor field on each of the Outposts to balance out the cheap warping.
We received a lot of mixed feedback on this and we have found a solution.
Technically we are not using the inhibitor field as an "inhibitor", in game we are stating that there is a possibility that if you're going at warp through a gravitational field (or a busy section of space) there's the chance you'll suffer damage (or a collision). The satellite gives the option for responsible denizens to advertise to ships within a 15km radius of the Outpost that aren't in contact with your forces that it's a good idea to drop out of warp so they don't run into you.
Of course this means that they can be targeted and destroyed, but they are also cheap and quick to build so destroying one doesn't necessarily mean that you have guaranteed a safe escape from the rapidly expanding ball of super hot plasma that you want to turn your opponent's Outpost into!
Further News
While we have been plodding along at a brisk pace accomplishing more than is strictly considered humanly possible there is the niggling question about when the community will get Release BETA.
This is a question that has come up recently, and the upcoming Mod Of The Year competition in the hot, sticky, summery months of November and December seems like a good time to put something out there. Rest assured though, we aren't going to put anything half finished out, even if it means we're a little late ;-)
