I know, but that ended up being more about what N.K. was going to do, not us.

Single nuke is not single today. Not even one can be fired. Considering their missiles can't reach the USA and there isn't any bigger enemy close, ignoring is the way.

Well, the Dictor is the snakes head, right? So, as much as Im against killing, cutting the snakes head off seems to be a message. The USA/Nato/my grandma could try it with real precision this time, not like in Iraq and Afghanistan before.

Todays Kim is not responsible. Even if he wanted to he can't admit they made a mistake and must follow the way given by Ir-Sen.

If there was an action to cut him out, one of those smiling old generals would quickly replace him and maybe even for worse...

Motto: All problems made by guns can be solved by guns.

Probably the worst solution, maybe simply disarm their nuclear capabilities and install a observer to guide a possible new government that is not as aggressive. Ours is a age where war turns global very easily so aggression is not really beneficial.

Alternatively, you could cut trade but of course as long as the dictator is well fed he will not respond to it much, contrary the possibility exists that in order to supply his people he will invade.

Of course, all very negative and grim scenarios but that is all I got.

Perhaps stop sending those UN supplies that keep Kim's people alive, for a start.

But then if that causes a revolt against their government the rebels would just get wiped. Then we'd end up with a poorer, angrier and more starved N. Korea. Unless it becomes Lybia 2.0, that is, with foreign intervention. However that still would make things... delicate, to say the least.

Convince China that there is no shame in letting their old ally die and that there is no threat of having another American ally at their doorstep, then let South Korea unite the 2 countries. Promise to South Korea hundreds of billions of $ in aid to rebuild the combined economy after their unification.

I don't believe America should just bull-rush them, we saw how well that worked out in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. The international community should ignore them. If they make any threats of violence, we respond in kind. Not actual violence, just a bolstering of American/NATO/UN fleet presence and posting troops along the border to reassure South Korea and intimidate North Korea into submission. They're a small nation with 'little man syndrome'. Besides, China has already condemned several of NK's missile tests, so it seems likely that with time, China will become fed up of them.

Regrettably I don't think North Korea will give up until Kim Jong Un starts having to deal with starvation himself. Invasion might be the only way to get rid of the regime; I'd say it would likely go better than Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan because we'd be fighting an actual army instead of guerrillas, and fighting enemy armies is something we do a lot better than fighting civilians. The issue at that point is if the North Korean populace is sufficiently brainwashed to follow Kim Jong Un against the U.S.

Then that would spark WW3. No way would China allow US military presence, secondly China would have to face millions of refugees trying to get into the country. If americal bombed/occupied n korea then it is the beginning of the end for all of us,

I think you're quite right, at least until N.K. gets more extreme or China gets more reasonable, resulting in them breaking off economic ties. At the current moment, to China us invading N.K. is sort of like how it would be for Americans if China invaded Canada. Not going to happen. Maybe we could stage a coup, but doubtful...

China views North Korea as a buffer between them and the West. It's not like China benefits at all from backing them, they keep them there for the sole purpose of diverting the West's attention. The idea of buffers has been China's strategy for centuries, it's the very same reason why the want Tibet, and why they're holding on to areas that have little to no apparent value.

Not really. So far as North Korea keeps up their attention tantrums, China can operate in peace and quiet. Internet or not, it's makes little to no difference if North Korea keeps up their whining.

Description

What the hell should we do with this country?

North Korea appears to have made quite an international problem; the presence of mass starvation, concentration camps, nuclear weapons, and totalitarian dictatorship has convinced many that we should overthrow the regime. Others believe that due to their backing from China, attacking N.K. could cause a third world war. What should be done?
