WTF! I know CIA's torture got to him but this is not what I was expecting from extreme tortures...
Nothing is worse than being born in a body that does not fit to your consciousness. We should not play judge over someones decision to correct mother natures mistake. If this helps Manning in any way, he should be free to do so.
I don't think will ever understand this type of stuff. The whole, 'born in the wrong body' thing, my opinion is that this is some type of psychological problem although i have no idea and have not bothered to look it up, therefore my opinion is really invalid in any serious conversation. At the same time i still support their right to get a sex change since my opinion is irrelevant and its not hurting anyone...
Just something funny but, i saw this on the news and thought 'Hrm Bradley Manning, isn't that the guy who leaked all that stuff to wikileaks? They have the same name, must be a coincidence...'
Before anyone flames me, what i mean is that there are multiple psychological explanations for why he identifies himself as a female, some may be legitimate and some may just be from stress or something, that's the reason i have trouble just accepting these 'wrong body' stories. Like i said though my opinion is irrelevant to whether they should have freedom or not.
Ever since this Chelsea thing I haven't been able to summon any ***** to give to the Manning cause. This is just too silly and effectively I'm pretty sure he... 'she' just shot her own cause out an airlock.
People have just barely gotten used to gay people, now he's shoving this into the ether and expects it to not destroy his credibility? Hah.
Even I find this confusion of gender thing peculiar and tend to avoid addressing the subject altogether. I have no more insight than a priest, besides my 'lets kind-of try to avoid killing people' policy.
I dont think in any case that his transsexuality hurts his credibility nor does it reinforce it either. Its a seperate thing. And in the very most cases, transsexuality is based on biological factors, such as a female brain in a male body for example, rather than on psychological ones. In other words, transsexual people are not more or less insane than you or me.
Hopefully you now have a bit more insight than a priest.
It doesn't matter if I think it discredits him, it matters if a healthy chunk of people would have sympathy for Manning now see him as some gender-confused weirdo. And it goes beyond that as well, gayness is an easy subject whereas abnormal sexuality and gender issues are complex beyond the majority's comprehension at this point and will likely take a lot longer to even become an issue as accepting the fact gay people just so happen to exist recently did.
The fact is this cause's momentum is dead and even more than that now the people who were demanding Manning be released are now derailed and arguing in defense of transgendered people rather than against a fascist government.
Manning will just turn into a footnote in good time and probably be referenced when the transgender thing picks up in a few decades or years if they're lucky.
I don't know about you, but I find a practically fascist government to be a more pressing concern than some rare genetic-sexual defect.
True. But Im asking myself if it isnt too much to ask for both, Mannings freedom, taking down the facist government and acceptance for transgendered people? Too me, the reason to protest has not shiftened, but widened. Sadly people are simple minded fools and dont focus on all 3 of those issues, but rather on the latest one, as it sounds.
