Not only did we manage to make it into the new year unscathed, we even managed to dodge the leap year bullet! Things are looking up for Asylum so far: we've tweaked our site a little bit to make a little easier to read, and we also have a few "public works," as you might call them, in progress. If you've been waiting to jump on the Asylum bandwagon, now is the time to do it. Production is speeding up, but we're still actively recruiting talented modders to round out our staff. Check our Jobs page to see what we're desperate for today.
As I said, things are looking up. Nothing demonstrates that better than being able to show things that kill other things. Today is the beginning of a weekly showcase of the Colonial Guard's arsenal on Tau1 Gruis, with descriptions copied right from the manual (yes, not another generic readme) that will come with the mod.
M104 Incendiary Suppression Tank
"Firefly"
The M104 Firefly continues the tradition of hostility being the true mother of invention. Napalm and other incendiary weapons had been banned on ancient Earth as being "cruel" and "uncivilized," but the Interstellar War brought them back into widespread and continued usage.
The Firefly is a simple tracked platform that mounts two Propelled-Napalm flamethrowers in a pivoting base. The innovative feature of the Firefly is that it also has two turbofans mounted in the rear of each flamethrower, forcing compressed oxygen directly into the weapon and increasing the range and ferocity of the flames. Very little can stand against the Firefly: infantry and static emplacements are especially susceptible.
Firefly units are generally deployed in hunter-packs to urban environments. They excel at clearing structures of enemy garrisons, and cornering armor between several streams of flame. The M104 has served successfully along the Rim, assisting in clearing dangerous plant and animal life on Fringe worlds and keeping marauding pirates at bay. The design is currently being phased out of Frontline Guard and Marine units, but the Firefly will always have a place in the hearts of colonial militias and frontiersmen as the ultimate bushwhacker.
Colonial Guard Rifle Team
"Jarheads"
The Colonial Guard is the million-strong army that defends the far-flung worlds of humanity. They are the future's "weekend warriors." Except for a few career military men and women, the vast majority of the Guard hold regular employment and train every few weeks.
While not under-equipped, Colonial Guard infantry are not outfitted with the same state-of-the-art equipment that the Marine Expeditionary Units receive. They depend on the reliable but aging M8C Battle Rifle and simple ballistic armor. But they remain the first line of defense against pirates and other undesirables along the Rim. Guard infantry is affordable to field in large numbers, and their combined volume of fire can cut down most opponents.
We also have a new Developer Journal up, detailing our Power Radius feature for the AWSC.
Until next week.

One word, AWESOME!!!!
Very, very nice. Would cover system be at all vaguely possible?
Cover is already part of C&C3, it could be possible to extend it so that infantry take cover around vehicles.
Is that goin to be implemented in to asylum?
New toys for C&C 3: Tiberium Wars? Good :)
Pretty neat stuff :).
Great stuff. ;)
yeah looks great :D
Took them long enough...
you could say the same for CnC Reborn XD
I'm talking about Moddb.
Oh hey, recycled Artillery Tank.
What's your point?
I HAVE NO COMPLAINT TO THIS.
Seriously I think it is cool to see how your updating/adapting your original content to fit into the game.
You escape the lynching for now.. :V
I wouldn't exactly call turning an at best "meh" design into pure awesome just as "recycled". :P
I think people will have a hard time deciding whether to feel offended or not. Frankly the design wasn't changed all that much. It has always been awesome.
Blowtorches... ENGAGE!
Great job, I specially like the infantry. ;)
love the tank, buggy and infantry! but the flame tank is a bit eh, reminds me too much of C&C's but ah well, good job!
Since our flame tank design was around before the current Nod version, I'm ok with them looking similar.
Our flame tank was originally done in or 2005 or so, well before the C&C 3 one was revealed.
:D Modified Scorpion Tank from HaloGen for the win.
Anyway, impressive work. Definitely looking forward to this mod. sweet work guys.
It's not the Scorpion, geez.
Children's children's children's war.
Whoah. I just got this mental image of fetuses strapped to tanks and piloting helicopters made out of pulsing womb-like bits and bobs and trailing membranes.
You are so adding that to Killing Floor.
