I agree... if you already know flash, all you have to do is learn kismet and some fscommands to create new in-game menu's and interactivity.

Kismet is a great tool, if I was honest, I'd say a little more understand of programming would help you understand it more. But the combination of Kismet and Flash is fantastic, hell I've managed to make some really nice looking stuff thanks to this extension.

So true, I'm sure if I learned unreal script, I could probably customize the interactions a lot better. Until then, Kimset has some great functionality with ease-of-use for us beginners

Scaleform GFx 4.0 key features:

Multi-threaded architecture and rendering — Our all-new rendering engine combines multi-threading with the latest hardware features, delivering lightening-fast vector graphics across a range of multi-core platforms.

Flash 10.1/AS3 Compatibility — Flash 10.1/AS3 compatibility enables studios to draw from a wide range of publicly available assets and a much larger pool of developers.

Mobile device optimizations — With support for mobile chip sets and multi-touch, as well as a Mobile UI Kit, Scaleform GFx is now highly tuned for iOS and Android devices, as well as other OpenGL ES-accelerated systems.

3D Support — 3D Flash tools help artists create menus, displays and interfaces for upcoming 3D and stereoscopic 3D games that can be tilted and tweened in 3-dimensional space. Developers can also add custom 3D rendered objects or streaming video to a 3D Flash interface to create a unique cinematic experience.

AMP Profiler — The Analyzer for Memory and Performance (AMP) tool provides a comprehensive view of the CPU usage, rendering stats and memory allocation developers need to remotely tune applications as they are being developed for mobile devices.

UI Kits and CLIK — To get developers up and running faster, Scaleform GFx 4.0 comes with a variety of UI Kits, which provide an easy-to-use, out-of-the-box starting point to rapidly design mobile applications.

Stereoscopic 3D (S3D) — Scaleform GFx 4.0 supports stereoscopic 3D rendering of Flash UIs and games on the new generation of auto-stereo 3D mobile devices, such as Nintendo 3DS as well as smart phones and tablets equipped with MasterImage's auto-S3D parallax barrier screens.

Scaleform bought-out by Autodesk
Apparently Autodesk see's some value in Scaleform and game menus. I'm actually surprised Adobe didn't try to make a bid...

Autodesk, Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Scaleform Corporation, the makers of Flash UI tools and middleware solutions for the games industry. Autodesk is a leader in 3D entertainment and design software, providing a broad range of digital content creation solutions from authoring tools: Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk MotionBuilder, to runtime technologies: Autodesk Beast, Autodesk HumanIK and Autodesk Kynapse. Our combined Autodesk Scaleform teams can better realize our shared vision of integrating 2D and 3D authoring technology while delivering real-time graphics performance to our customers

Over the coming months, we intend to integrate the Scaleform business into Autodesk. Co-Founders Brendan Iribe and Micheal Antonov, along with COO Marc Bennett and the rest of the Scaleform team, are expected to join Autodesk Media & Entertainment Games group. Below are details of our integration plan. It is our priority to make sure that there is no disruption to your business operations.

I successfully created my first menu with Scaleform, Flash and UDK. It was just a test, but Scaleform & UDK support almost all the features of flash in your menu. The Bezel, drop shadow, inner/outer glow, bevel and blur effects all translate pretty well. I noticed the outer glow is a little less bright in Scaleform than Flash.
Also one huge benefit: if your background has no images/color filling up the the scene, then it will be transparent in your game interface. Meaning, you will see your UDK level behind your menu. So you can create a cinematic matinée as your background just like in Unreal Tournament 3.

Awwww Yeaaaahhh!
I'm just a beginner at using Scaleform, but have been using Adobe Flash for years. I love using flash for creating interactive websites. As I get to know Scaleform and create some successful menu's & HUD's, I'll post some tutorials.
If you have any questions about flash, feel free to post them here too...
thanks Feillyne
