A model of a tree. This is an md2 that refuses to convert to mdl.
Part of the skin is supposed to render transparent.
That doesnt happen.

I tried to use darkplaces skin override to make that part transparent.
It works...but - the entire model is transparent now, not just the desired area.
There does not seem to be an easy fix either.

if you're using darkplaces why not just leave it as md2?

also what are you using to convert it?

If memory is correct I tried a couple convert methods.
No idea about specifics without looking back in the .plan.
As far as keeping md2...
Its a toss up.

It is possibly because that didnt handle the transparent portions either.

But for a long while my model directive has been:
1. have a ".mdl" only version for... nostalgia reasons?
2. upgraded visuals will use md3 overrides as with quake HD

Point 1 makes little sense since the mod has gone darkplaces only.
Originally it ran under a custom glquake / tenebrae (given some of the tenebrae issues - like lighting - could be resolved.)

Maybe I'll go back and try the md2.
Or maybe when I hit models again, I'll make my own dead tree...

And what the heck happened to previews and edit on comments?
I wish they would quit fixing stuff that isnt broke.

Wow. Ok
at some point I abandoned the mdl only phase - thats from some really old notes.
there is a version that uses md2 - just not released yet.
That is a planned future add on. Was trying to track down permissions on the md2 files - my only source says the whole package was released GPL. I'd gather that can apply to models.

So then the answer is point A - the md2 looks like ****
