Capitalism as pictured by Adam Smith:
"Every man, as long as he does not violate the laws of justice, is left perfectly free to pursue his own interest his own way, and to bring both his industry and capital into competition with those of any other man, or order of men. The sovereign is completely discharged from a duty, in the attempting to perform which he must always be exposed to innumerable delusions, and for the proper performance of which no human wisdom or knowledge could ever be sufficient; the duty of superintending the industry of private people, and of directing it towards the employments most suitable to the interest of the society." - Wealth of Nation, Chapter 9.

what what happened in the Tiananmen square is something what USSR military had to do in 1991. Chineese government didn't crap their pants and crushed that clownery in the square. Thanks to it, now they are actually CHINA, and not a bunch of puppet pseudo-independent formations with rudimentary elements of statehood, ruled by local princelings and with oratory about democracy like most of post-soviet counntries are nowadays.

Besides, do you really think that a state can't normally exist without speculation and street hucksters? Or that a stranger from nowhere will be more effective manager than a state machine? Bureaucracy (in good sense) is much more effective than a private owner in most of spheres. That's a fact. And that't what China did - they allowed market relations in segments, where strict governmental controll is not needed.
And that has sense.

It's funny because China is a capitalist country, state capitalist, but it's capitalism nonetheless. Capitalism works, Socialism doesn't. Wake up people!

Really? Because I'm from Europe and I see the socialist entitlement Policys of the EU unraveling every day and tearing apart Europe and it's economy. Wow I must be completely Blind. Also countries like Sweden are NOT completely socialist unlike other EU countries. They just don't HAND out free money, you can start your own Bizz pretty easily unlike most of the EU and now the US it seems, The gov stays out of your way plus they have ridiculous sales Tax and Income tax. Most of their taxes collected go back to the people of Sweden, not to the Liberal, Socialist Moochers.

I have to agree with this as my country is a perfect example. They were under British rule and for the most part our country enjoyed a great variety of improvements under the British rule as they brought food, shelter, health improvement (very important), improved living standards etc etc. What basically happened was that the sudden need to be an independent country came along as some other countries at the time were gaining independence (I think). Now that aint a bad thing of course but right now our country is in such a bad shape that I wished that didnt happen. (Until at least our country was worthy of being independent) I would go as far as wishing that I could go back in time and slap the bastard who wanted independence because the British did offer a chance to extend their "stay" which was ignored quickly because our Sultan at the time wanted independence instead (The Sultan wanted it not the people). Now when I think about it I wish they had so that our small little country could have been a country like Singapore. I shudder to even think if they never ruled our country at all. This country I am referring to is Maldives (not many people know about it)

If that doesnt sound clear by the way, apologies as I momentarily got distracted by this page when I was doing my assignment and yes I did not explain it in full detail or might have made some mistakes.
