City of Steam Newsletter 2012-02-25 Sneak Peek and GDC (If you are not a subscriber, don't hesitate, subscribe it and get continual updates for the game's development and further tests. )

It’s very close, and the air is filled with electricity, the inner gears of every employee at Mechanist Games are turning if not a little too quickly, and the caffeine levels are dangerously high. We’ve got a lot to discuss today. It could be broken down to: our trip to San Francisco, the sneak peek of City of Steam or the animated shorts. But that doesn’t really give it the impact it rightly deserves. So, if you’ll lend your attention for a spell (pun perhaps intended) we’ll get down to the brass and cogs of what’s going on.

Do you hear that? Well, no, you probably don’t, not yet at least. But let us tell you what we’re hearing. We’re listening to the chugging of a train; we’re looking at the sprawling landscape pass by as the train to Nexus brings our character to Ebonwax where a journey into the world of City of Steam begins. The heavy sound of the metal parts pushing the train forward, the wind, the growing awe of what is coming, all the time we spent waiting, working, wondering, and here it is. This marks the first in many steps for the gamer, to escape from life for a while and take a walk through the industrial, vivid, and inspiring landscapes that we’ve been building brick by brick.

After a great reception at GDC in China last year, a group of us are headed to GDC in San Francisco next week to show off the game and work out the right contacts to really get this project off the ground.

On behalf of everyone here we’d like to also thank Evan and his team at indie animation studio Big American Films, for their untiring hard-work extending the City of Steam vision and realizing it in this additional medium. We can’t wait to unveil them at GDC. If you haven’t already, check out the back-story, the planning and the early concepts for these City of Steam CG animated shorts.

Lastly, we hope this early release shows off where City of Steam is heading and that we truly value your input. If you didn’t receive a key, we look forward to your participation in future tests and please provide your suggestions. We’d love all the help we can get to improve the game and make it better for an alpha release. So please, follow these steps, head over to our forums, tell us about bugs, suggestions and the always appreciated and fuel for our motivation: give us your compliments and impressions.

Have fun!
