The Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott is a group of individuals who have pledged to boycott Valve's upcoming release of Left 4 Dead 2 on November 17th, 2009. We have assembled a manifesto outlining the basic concensus of many members of our community.

-Valve is a company with financial needs and cannot be expected to survive without the release of new games.

-Judgment cannot be passed on the quality of Left 4 Dead 2 until its release.

-Left 4 Dead was, and is, a quality game which deserves the praise of the entire gaming community.

-To holding Valve to its promise of free, continual updates to Left 4 Dead in order to build and sustain the community.

-To keeping the Left 4 Dead community together in order to improve the quality of online gaming.

-To supporting the model of continual updates Valve has set forth with its staple products like Team Fortress 2.

-The release of Left 4 Dead 2 as a stand-alone sequel will split the communities and decrease the quality of multiplayer gaming.

-The announced content of Left 4 Dead 2 does not warrant a stand-alone, full-priced sequel and should instead become updates (free or otherwise) for Left 4 Dead.

-Left 4 Dead has not yet received the support and content which Valve has repeatedly stated will be delivered.

-The release of Left 4 Dead 2 will make Left 4 Dead an obsolete purchase and inferior piece of software after only one year since release.

-That Valve honor its commitment to release ongoing periodic content for Left 4 Dead.

-That Left 4 Dead 2 not be released as a stand-alone, full-priced sequel but as either a free update to Left 4 Dead or an expansion with full compatibility with basic Left 4 Dead owners.

-That Left 4 Dead owners be given discounts for Left 4 Dead 2, should it be released as premium content.

I got a question, How many members actually played l4d2 and still are moping and whining about how "Unfair" it is? This isn't the first time a game company made a game and made a sequal of said game in the next year, Here is an example: Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 Unreal Tournament 2003 and Unreal Tournament 2004 Star Wars Battlefront And Battlefront 2, Now unlike the games i mentioned, LEFT 4 DEAD 2 DOES NOT REPLACE LEFT 4 DEAD 1! A lot of people that love l4d2 are still playing l4d1, L4D2 is just an "EXTENSION" of L4D1, Meaning that if L4D1 is half a game L4D2 is the other half.

First off jedi, use better examples. None of those were direct 1 year releases from eachother, par battle field 2 and 2142, but those were completely different styled games. UT2k3 was the last few months of 2002, while 2004 was a few months into 2004, and they were VERY different from eachother, moreso then just UT2k3 with vehicles.

L4D2 DOES replace L4D1. When fans remake L4D1 content for L4D2 (Aka maps, since that's about all L4D1 has that 2 doesn't) then that's exactly what they are doing, making the other obsolete. As for new content, it was released a year later, AFTER L4D2 came out, and that was 1 TINY campaign.

Modding for L4D is a joke, because so little is possible with the SDK given to us, nearly half a year late I might add.

On a side note i love your logic, You said that when the fan community remakes the campaigns for l4d2 its officially a replacement, So if some random modder decides to make a mod for doom 2 that puts in the doom 1 levels its considered a replacement too?

Also Crash Course came out 3 months before l4d2.

Crash course came out not even 2 months before L4D2.

Your comparing this to Doom? A game that at its time was top of the line graphics technology. A sequel that was a largescale engine upgrade (At the time) that sold near hundreds of copies and also had a few expansions after it. A game that won numerous awards and is still considered by many to be the best franchise of all time? Doom is why we have FPS games as we do today. The game and levels have been remade countless times, but nothing can replace the oldschool feel of playing the original game. Use more recent examples.

I love the fact that it took you 8 days to respond to this, What were you doing in the meantime? Looking this stuff up on wikipedia to prove me wrong? So i was off 3 months BIG WHOOP!

Secondly you can't tell the difference replacing and extension! For instance ut2004 has the same maps as 2003 but also has new maps gamemodes vehicles and player models, Which means its a replacement, l4d2 does not have the same campaigns as the original nor does it have the same survivors, Therefore it is an extension,

Lastly check this site out: And tell me modding any of the l4d games is a joke, More people accomplished making campaigns than your group ever did to boycott the game!

What am I supposed to check this everyday? It's a boycott not a revolution. It wouldn't take that long to use wikipedia, and even then why would I need it for my favorite franchises of all time?

UT2K4 has the FAVORITE maps of UT2k3 remade onto it (Keyword if you can find it), and was a largescale engine upgrade. There was large additions like vehicles, weapons, and acrobatics added, as well as dozens upon dozens of maps. Hell people still preferred UT2k3 of UT2k4, until the MSU contest came around. One other thing you forget is that the UT franchise is made for one reason, to sell their UE2.5 engine, which they have done a hundred times over. The money they make comes from engine sales, not game sales. The only reason Monster Madness sold so well is because it gave modders an early introduction to the UE3 engine. A head start for those expecting another MSU contest around the corner.

New survivors does nothing to the game, at all. New campaigns is like adding a mappack. SO basically you say its an expansion, not a full new game. OMG guess what, we do too! Some new weapons and infected, and what do we have? AN EXPANSION. You do realize WHY this boycott exists right?

Making campaigns does not equal modding (Up to a point). Making maps is entirely different from adding new weapons and new gameplay mechanics. RIP AddonDB.

We just don't like valve going back on their word. They said l4d1 was gonna get free content constantly like tf2 and then l4d2 happened. Obviously, valve was cashing in on the zombie craze. They knew people would buy l4d2 regardless.

I personally never bought l4d1 or l4d2. I was going to buy l4d1 but never got around to it. Good thing I didn't

TheLastJedi Sep 19 2010 replied:

It still is getting free content! Crash Course, The l4d comic, The Sacrifice and possibly many more, This is valve we are talking about, They are a bit slow but eventually they get there.

Rawket Sep 22 2010 replied:

crash course, that piece of **** map? I'm talking about new weapons, new characters and new voices. TF2 got all that for free and all l4d gets is another price tag.

Don't get me wrong, I know many companies don't like doing things for free. But, when you were initially promised this content, to be free of charge. It's a **** move to back out. TF2 got free class updates with new maps and I just assume L4D would be the same.

I was wrong.
