The Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott is a group of individuals who have pledged to boycott Valve's upcoming release of Left 4 Dead 2 on November 17th, 2009. We have assembled a manifesto outlining the basic concensus of many members of our community.

-Valve is a company with financial needs and cannot be expected to survive without the release of new games.

-Judgment cannot be passed on the quality of Left 4 Dead 2 until its release.

-Left 4 Dead was, and is, a quality game which deserves the praise of the entire gaming community.

-To holding Valve to its promise of free, continual updates to Left 4 Dead in order to build and sustain the community.

-To keeping the Left 4 Dead community together in order to improve the quality of online gaming.

-To supporting the model of continual updates Valve has set forth with its staple products like Team Fortress 2.

-The release of Left 4 Dead 2 as a stand-alone sequel will split the communities and decrease the quality of multiplayer gaming.

-The announced content of Left 4 Dead 2 does not warrant a stand-alone, full-priced sequel and should instead become updates (free or otherwise) for Left 4 Dead.

-Left 4 Dead has not yet received the support and content which Valve has repeatedly stated will be delivered.

-The release of Left 4 Dead 2 will make Left 4 Dead an obsolete purchase and inferior piece of software after only one year since release.

-That Valve honor its commitment to release ongoing periodic content for Left 4 Dead.

-That Left 4 Dead 2 not be released as a stand-alone, full-priced sequel but as either a free update to Left 4 Dead or an expansion with full compatibility with basic Left 4 Dead owners.

-That Left 4 Dead owners be given discounts for Left 4 Dead 2, should it be released as premium content.

The funny thing about this "full price DLC..."

Valve redid EVERYTHING. New code, new voice actors, twice the amount of maps, updated engine, every weapon was redone. There was multiple times the amount of content in Left 4 Dead 2 than in the prequel. Yeah, Left 4 Dead 2 should've totally been free.

So basically what you are saying is: since they put a lot of work and effort on this product they should ruin their hard work and give it away for free.
Uh right...
If you said that the first L4D should have been free since it comes as a L4D2 DLC I would have agreed with that.

That actually doesn't really explain why it should be free. If I were to redesign a game, and give it as much updates as L4D2 has, I'd likely want it to give some sort of return as well. Yes, L4D is left in the tracks by it's lack of content, but they are essentially doing the inverse of what you want. They're adding L4D content into L4D2. So in a way, they -are- actually doing it.

Yes, this is frustrating, but I fail to see how boycotting it really effects them anymore. All you're doing is saying that -you- refuse to buy it. They presently make more from selling other people's games than their own.

If you're going to at least complain about a money centric sequel, then complain about Portal 2. The L4D series is selflessly made in comparison to how linear and lacking in difficulty Portal 2 is. I played it on loan, and I still felt like I had been somehow cheated out of money.

So lets start bumping down some of these useless comments and have a real discussion. Before this whole L4D2 situation, I would blindly follow Valve and buy any and everything they released. Right around the time L4D was released I was laid off so I put buying it on low priority. Once I got everything back on track I purchased L4D. I had the game 4 month's before they announced L4D2, needless to say I was upset. Not because I thought they were going to drop support for L4D (for the most part they haven't)but because they were taking the route of all the other money hungry devs/publishers. I just felt betrayed, but I have learned my lesson and they have lost a fan. That's not to say that I wont ever buy a valve game they're just goning to have to try a lot harder from now on.

Dumbest and most ignorant group ever, this makes no sense at all, you want a company's hard work to be ignored even though they made a game better a new game.

YOU are not playing a ******* game.

It is YOUR loss.

Well if you like to pay twice for the same game that actually looks more like a DLC then fine. But there are other people that don't want that kind of ****.
